Regardless of which plants were used during planting to form a hedge, it still has to be looked after, albeit minimally. If this is not done, then it will lose its attractive appearance, the condition of the plants will gradually deteriorate.
Loosening the soil
Plants in a hedge are planted quite densely, which leads to compaction of the soil, which can sometimes be quite strong. In this connection, it is important to loosen the soil at regular intervals. This is done at a distance of at least 0.5 m from the plants, and on both sides of the plantings. For hedges formed from trees, it is also important to work around the trunk circles of about 100 cm in circumference. It is imperative to mow the lawn near the trees and remove the weeds that have appeared; it is not recommended to bring the soil to turf.
Depending on the structure of the root, planted plantings, the depth of loosening will also differ. So in trees with a taproot system, you can even dig up the soil with a shovel, in plants with a surface one - limit yourself only to loosening to a depth of no more than 5 cm.In order to prevent weeds from growing, it is worth mulching the ground, sprinkling it with sawdust, chips, peat, chicken egg shells , for a thickness of 3 ... 5 cm.
Watering
It is imperative to ensure that the roots of the plant do not dry out; for this, timely watering is necessary. In the first month after planting, young plants are watered weekly. If the hedge was planted in the fall, natural rainfall is sufficient, but in case of low rainfall, it is also important to moisturize beyond that.
Additional watering with water should be carried out in dry summers, as well as during periods when the plant abundantly releases shoots, this will make them more powerful and healthy, which will affect the density of the hedge. The amount of water is calculated per running meter and should be 20 ... 30 liters for each watering.
Another method of plant moistening is "sprinkling", that is, spraying the crown of a bush or tree from a hose with a splitter set to maximum spray of water. It is better to carry out this manipulation in the early morning or evening, so that the sun's rays do not burn the foliage after that. This is done with the aim of not only additional moisture, but also to remove dust from the foliage. This is especially true for evergreen plantations, because their needles live for several years, and during this period a huge amount of dust and soot accumulates on them. This is true both for urban areas and beyond. After such a procedure, the hedge will become even greener and more beautiful.
Currently, special irrigation systems have been developed that provide a slow supply of water through special dividers, which prevents soil erosion at the roots and frees gardeners from tedious and long-term occupation.
Top dressing
Together with watering plants, you can combine another useful procedure - feeding and adding growth stimulants. Special granules, for example, Heteroauxin, are dissolved in water for irrigation. When planting in spring, this fertilizer can be fed 8-10 times over the summer. It is important to strictly follow the instructions, otherwise you can harm the plantings, instead of benefit. It is recommended to start foliar dressing no earlier than 2 years of plant life in a permanent place.
