Reproduction of lilies

Propagation of lilies by cuttings

Propagating lilies by cuttings is quite simple:

  • using a clean and sharp pruner, cut off the stem part without injuring the bulb;
  • process the cut on a green cutting with a solution of potassium permanganate;
  • lower the stalk for a while into a stimulator of growth processes;
  • prepare planting boxes with drainage holes and fill them with vermiculite or clean sifted sand;
  • plant prepared green lily cuttings, water abundantly and cover the planting with plastic wrap.

In the summer, it is permissible to plant cuttings directly into open ground, where the plantings must also be protected with polyethylene. With proper care, after about three to four weeks, baby bulbs are formed in the soil,
which are recommended to be separated and planted for the purpose of growing.

The best varieties of lilies

A huge number of varieties of lilies are known and it is not easy to determine the best ones in all respects. Let's highlight only some of the most popular and well-known varieties.

***

Thanks to a timely transplant, lilies can be kept healthy and attractive for a long time. The signal that the plant should be rejuvenated should be a reduction in the number of peduncles and a decrease in the size of flowers. Do not delay the division and transplantation, and then you will not have problems with lilies.

Propagation by leaves

Lilies reproduce even with their leaves.The following varieties respond best to this method: Tigrovaya, Belosnezhnaya, Thunberg, Maksimovich, species: sulfur-colored and long-flowered.

Procedure

For reproduction, you need to pluck the leaf at the tops of the stem: it is important that the leaf is separated together with the base with which it is attached to the stem.
The leaf is then rooted obliquely, burying it 1/2 of the size into the ground. Rooting is recommended to be carried out in a container with the provided drainage holes.

The soil should be composed of wet earth and sand.
From above, the leaf must be covered with a polyethylene bag so that a moist, warm microclimate is formed inside. Ventilate the sheet regularly and remove any condensation that has accumulated inside the bag.
After a month, bulbs will begin to form at the base of the leaf. At this time, the shelter is removed.
It is better to overwinter the leaf indoors or in the garden, but under a warm shelter.
In the following seasons, in spring or autumn, the bulbs that appear can be planted in their places.

Breeding with cuttings

Among gardeners, the propagation of lilies by cuttings is encouraged. The first 2 methods are the simplest, but here you need to have knowledge of botany, to understand what characteristics a lily has.

Nuances

For grafting, both leaves and parts of the stems are suitable. Plant stems are best propagated when buds are set on the mother lily, and the leaves are used when the plant is about to bloom with sweat.

The stems need to be cut into 5 or maximum 7 cuttings. Everyone should have leaves. The lower ones can be removed, and the upper ones must be left.

Briefing

Before transplanting, cuttings are cut and act like this:

  1. In the flower shop, buy a suitable growth stimulant. Dilute it in water and keep the stems or leaves there for 6 to 12 hours.
  2. The soil under the cuttings needs fertile and loose so that water can quickly pass through it. It is best when there is peat in the soil.
  3. Cuttings should be planted at an angle and 50% buried in the ground.
  4. Now the plant is watered abundantly and covered with polyethylene or glass of a suitable size.
  5. The premises in which the cuttings germinate must be ventilated daily. The owner is looking at films or glass, is it fogged up? Misted wipes off moisture and keeps clean.
  6. On the stems, where the leaves grow, bulbs can grow. They are torn off, placed in separate containers. There they will grow up and they can also be planted in the spring in open soil.

Cuttings made from stems can be planted directly into the ground. This is done in a greenhouse. From the lily bush, when they are dug up in the spring, the stem is torn from the bulb. It needs to be cut into cuttings and planted in a designated area of the greenhouse.

Now even a novice gardener understands how to grow lilies from: scales, bulbs, cuttings taken from stems and leaves, from bulbs. The methods of growing and caring for lilies are simple, and the flowers delight the owners with their beauty for more than one year.
