Peony transplant - what is always worth remembering?
For many reasons, gardeners often have to transplant peonies, and Solange is no exception. In order for the transplant to be favorable and not entail negative consequences, certain conditions must be observed:
The best time for transplanting peonies is until mid-May and after the second half of August, since these are the periods that are considered the most successful;
Transplanting an adult plant must be done carefully. At a distance of 15-20 cm, dig in the bush well, try not to damage the stems
Remove the peony along with a clod of earth;
Prepare a hole on the new planting site, fill it with fertilizers in the same way as when planting. Make a mound of fertile soil mixture and place a seedling on it, cover it with earth and compact. The depth during transplantation should be such that the buds are located at a depth of 2.5-4 cm from the surface. A deep planting will not bring the long-awaited flowering of peonies;
After planting, it is necessary to water the soil well and mulch with a layer of humus to retain moisture.
The transplanted peonies will surely bloom next year, but it is recommended to remove the buds to allow the root system to fully grow stronger. If the buds are not cut off, most likely, the flowering will be weak, diseases may develop;
If your herbaceous peony Solange did not rise after the purchase, and you decided to dig it up and transplant, then first find the reason for this phenomenon - most likely the initial planting was buried, so the buds did not sprout to the surface. It is also possible that the root tubers have rotted in the ground. In such cases, it is necessary to transplant the peony to a new place, fill the planting pit according to the rules. Clean root tubers from bad areas, dust with ash, or hold in a pink solution of potassium permanganate for 15-20 minutes. After that, you can dust it with any root-forming stimulant, for example, Kornevin or Heteroauxin, and transplant it to a new place, observing the depth (2.5-4 cm from the surface).
From the above, it follows that Solange herbaceous peony will require attention to please you with beautiful lush flowers!
Peony Solange decorates the garden thanks to its large flowers in delicate cream shades. The bush is vigorous, with dark green glossy leaves. Flowering begins as early as 3-4 years, lasts 2-3 weeks. Caring for this peony is usual, so both an experienced and a novice gardener can handle it.
Care features
Peony "Solange" is just as picky about leaving as about planting. It does not require particularly complex manipulations. It can be for quite a long time without proper attention, fertilizers for 6-7 years.
What else you need to know about caring for ornamental shrubs, we will consider further.
- Bush pruning should be done in late summer, early autumn. Cut off the stems, leaving 3-4 cm from the soil.
- During the season (summer), cut off dried, broken, damaged leaves and stems.
- Also remove dried flowers if there is no need to collect seeds.
- It is required to loosen the soil about 3-4 times a month. Especially after severe drought and rains.
- Peonies do not like weeds, so it is worth harvesting them. Weeds can carry various diseases and breed pests.
- We must not forget about disease prevention. In early spring or autumn, spray with a fungicide solution. Also, monitor the cultivation technique so that the plant does not get sick with root rot, rust.
- For ants and pests, you can use the preparations "Fufanon", "Iskra".
- If the bush is heavily flooded with rains, it is imperative to dig a small hole through which excess moisture can escape.
Planting and growing
Peony "Solange" is recommended to be planted in early spring, if there is no threat of frost, as well as in autumn. The best time to plant bushes is from September to October. The handsome peony is undemanding to planting and further cultivation.
Step-by-step disembarkation process.
Prepare a root hole approximately 55-65 centimeters deep, 35-45 centimeters wide
You should pay attention to the size of the planting material.
Lay drainage at the bottom of the hole with a layer of 13-17 centimeters. Drainage can be: expanded clay, broken brick, crushed stone, stones with a diameter of 1-3 cm.
Pour a layer of sand 4-6 cm thick on top, and 4-6 cm of cow dung mixed in equal shares with the land on the sand
In conclusion, you can lay a small layer of peat with sawdust, ash.
Fill the hole well with water, wait until it is absorbed.
Plant the roots of the bush, cover with soil. Do not deepen the buds more than 10 centimeters into the ground.
Peony is a fairly large bush; it takes a large amount of nutrients from the soil. Therefore, you should not plant it close to other plants, otherwise the "war" of the peony with other flowers can lead to the death of all species.
Stagnant fluid can lead to root death. "Solange" prefers loamy soil, which is good for air permeability. Also, when planting, you need to fertilize the roots.
Watering rules.
Generous watering is required immediately after planting
The first three days, you need to pay attention to the moisture content of the earth, water the bush once every 2 days. Further, the procedure should be shortened.
Be sure to loosen the soil after each watering.
It is best to water more abundantly, but less frequently.
Already well strengthened, an adult bush can "drink" 25-30 liters of water
It is worth remembering this, especially in a hot period.
Subsequent watering should be done only when the top layer of the earth dries up.
At the beginning of autumn, watering must be completely stopped.
Planting and leaving
Peony Solange is best placed in a flower bed in late summer or early autumn
When choosing a site, attention is paid to its decorative effect and practical requirements:
- The place should be open, sufficiently lit.
- It is better not to plant bushes near the house so that the snow and icicles falling from the roof do not damage them.
- In lowlands where moisture accumulates, planting of these peonies is not allowed.
- The place must be protected from strong winds.
Peony Solange prefers loose, light, fertile soil with a neutral reaction of the environment. If the soil is depleted, a mixture of garden soil, sand, peat and humus, taken in equal quantities, is preliminarily prepared. To these you can add 500 g of wood ash and 70 g of superphosphate (for each well).
- A month before the procedure, the site is cleaned and dug up.
- Several holes 60 cm deep and in diameter are prepared, with an interval of at least 1 m.
- Drainage is laid from small stones.
- Pour 2/3 of the soil mixture.
- The plant is planted so that 4 cm remains from the rhizome to the surface of the earth.
- The rest of the soil is added, compacted a little and watered.
- Mulch with foliage, peat, straw.
After planting during the first and second seasons, the Solange peony bushes do not bloom and even look weakened. This is normal and should not be feared.
It is important to ensure proper care according to the rules described above, and in the third year the bush will give its first flowers
Planting pit for Solange peony should be deep enough (60x60 cm)
Characteristic
The species in question belongs to perennial shrubs. Its root system is formed from strong and fleshy tubers. The stems can reach a height of 100 cm. According to the description, the buds are quite large, they are formed on the peduncle alone. Flowers are of the double type. The color of the petals is salmon, with the addition of a pink tone. The foliage is large, dark green, dissected. This species can be planted in a place where there is shade for half a day, or in the open sun, but then frequent watering is required.
The soil for planting must be enriched with minerals and vitamins. Get well-drained soil, as peonies do not like heavy, stagnant soil, in which the tubers begin to rot. This plant looks great in a single planting, but when grown in groups, there must be free space between the bushes - this is required for full air circulation, otherwise fungal lesions begin to appear.
Florists did not pass by this variety, thanks to its amazing color and large flower that looks good in a bouquet. The height of the bush is up to 90 cm, it blooms late, the diameter of the bud is 19 cm.
