All about peonies "chiffon parfait"

Description

Peony "Dinner Plate" was bred in 1968 in the nursery of Charles Klemm (USA, Illinois). And already in 1973 at the American Exhibition he received a prize: the "Grand Champion" award. This award is well deserved, since the flower is really beautiful: huge double soft pink flowers densely cover a small bush, and so that it does not fall apart from the weight of the buds, you have to tie up and strengthen not very powerful stems. The name translates to "dinner plate" and speaks of the size of these gorgeous flowers.

Dinner Plate refers to the milky-flowered species of herbaceous peonies. The variety has an average flowering period, does not lose its beautiful appearance and pleasant thick aroma for a long time

And also, which is important for our territory, the peony is winter-hardy, which does not require special care. This variety is very good for cutting, as it blooms for a long time and abundantly, and at the same time, the petals are resistant to wilting and do not lose freshness for a long time.

This perennial plant looks good both in group plantings and alone.

Landing

It is best to plant in the fall, because those tubers that are planted in the spring, then lag behind in growth by a year. For root planting, a 60x60 cm pit is well suited, at the bottom of which organic material is pre-laid. Thanks to him, subsequently, there is no need to fertilize the land for several years.

The tuber is immersed only 5 centimeters, covered with soil on top and lightly pressed. The first watering is done in abundance. To preserve moisture, you can lay mulch from tree bark or needles on top of the ground, and then remove it in the spring.

It is important for the grower not to forget that if the root system is immersed too deeply or, on the contrary, close to the soil surface, then the peony will not bloom. This is the only thing in which he can be called moody.

If you transplant a flower, then its varietal qualities will appear only after a few years, however, experienced plant breeders are advised to immediately approach the process responsibly and choose a quality place. Peonies really do not like to change their place of residence and then get sick for a long time.

Choosing the right place for the plant is of particular importance for continued success. There should be no trees and shrubs nearby, they will pick up nutrients and moisture, and the peony does not tolerate competitors.

Care

In order for peonies to delight every year with lush flowering, they need relatively simple care. This is correct and timely watering, fertilization and protection from insect pests and diseases. In the spring, under the bushes of peonies, you need to loosen the ground, remove the remnants of weeds and water thoroughly (at least 3 buckets of water for each bush), and for the growth of stems and leaves, fertilize with nitrogen, for example, ammonium nitrate. Further, when the buds begin to appear, it is necessary to feed the plant with potash fertilizers or use ash.

In the summer, care consists in removing weeds, periodically loosening the soil and timely watering. It is better to water less often, but more abundantly. After all the buds have faded, they must be removed, and the plant must be fed with mineral potash, phosphorus or organic fertilizers.

In summer, especially in hot weather, aphids can become active. Since it has the ability to multiply very quickly, you must try to get rid of it as soon as possible. To do this, you can use an infusion of tobacco, a solution of laundry soap for spraying, or purchase chemicals for pest control in specialized stores.

At the end of summer, you need to increase watering, since at this time new buds begin to form. But with the onset of autumn cold weather, watering is stopped, and when the first frosts begin, you need to cut the stems almost to ground level. Burn all plant residues, treat the cuts with ash.

Peony flowering features Lemon Chiffon

Peony variety Lemon Chiffon belongs to the group of early large-flowered crops.

Flowers on stems are large, round, their diameter reaches 23 cm. The first year after planting, they look double, but after a while they become full. In the process of blooming, the color changes from snow-white to cream with yellowish stripes, pink spots may be observed in some places.

The petals are delicate, airy and light to the touch, the lower ones are located horizontally and directed to the side, the upper ones are larger and wider, forming a "bomb". Pistils with purple stigmas.

Flowering occurs from May to June, again - from August to September

During the flowering period, up to 3 light yellow flowers can form on one stem. Green leaves remain on the stems throughout the summer, and die off by winter. In spring, the leaves on the peony Lemon Chiffon reappear.

Application in design

Garden plants are very popular among landscape designers.

Peonies Lemon Chiffon look equally good in a single planting and in a group

The bush is best planted next to the same bright plants, or with other varieties of peonies.

Delicate yellow buds will be in harmony with roses, lilies, petunias, phlox, or with peonies of the varieties Duchesse de Nemours, Ren Hortense, Albert Cruss

Flowers of the Buttercup family are not compatible with peony plantings. These include anemone, adonis and lumbago. These plants are capable of depleting the soil, thereby oppressing everything that is planted nearby.

Some designers prefer to plant Lemon Chiffon near decorative conifers. The culture is also planted near gazebos, near the facades of buildings. But most often, peonies are cut and flower arrangements are made with them.

Lemon Shiffon is not a potted variety, so it is recommended to grow it only in garden plots.

Peonies in landscape design are in perfect harmony with other bright plants.

Transfer

Purple peony flowers can be transplanted with a whole bush or rhizomes divided into parts. When the plants are planted in the holes prepared for them, the bushes are sprinkled with earth. The soil surface is mulched with a layer of at least 7 cm. This layer will need to be removed in spring. At this time, young red shoots will appear on the surface.

Within 2 years, the transplanted plant will tirelessly form roots. Therefore, flowering should not be allowed at this time. All buds tied to the bush will need to be removed immediately. Flowering takes a lot of strength from the shrub, because of which it can die. In the second year, only 1 bud is left on the branches. When it blooms, it is cut as short as possible.

This procedure will allow you to evaluate the appearance of the flower, how much it matches the variety. If the buds do not have characteristic features, they are also completely cut off in the third year. This is done until the plant is able to produce inflorescences of the appropriate shape and color.

The purple peony sometimes takes a long time to produce buds of the corresponding color after transplanting. This can happen in the third or sixth year.
