Care
For favorable growth, varietal peonies should be properly looked after, namely:
- water regularly;
- loosen;
- remove early buds and faded flowers;
- carry out preventive spraying against insect attacks.
Watering should be regular but moderate. In no case should peonies be transfused, otherwise they may get sick. Especially in moist soil, fungi quickly grow, which infect not only the root system, but also the leaves with flowers.
When preparing peonies for winter, especially young ones, it is best to cover them. But large adult plants can overwinter and so. In the spring - before flowering - the plants can be fertilized. The last fertilizer is usually applied in the fall, when the bushes are preparing for wintering and are completely pruned.
Usually, peonies grow in one place for an average of 3-5 years, after which they can be transplanted and separated. But it should be understood that after such a time, the root system of an adult peony will be very large, therefore it will be more difficult to separate the flower.
For the prevention of diseases and attacks of insects, plants can be sprayed with special herbal infusions. Very often, chamomile or dandelion is used for these purposes. They are completely safe for both plants and humans.
If the situation is completely critical and ants, whitefly or other insects attacked the peonies, and there are a lot of them, then you can use special insecticides.

Diseases and pests
For the most part, harmful insects do not attack the peony. One aphid is an exception. To combat it, you do not need to use special insecticides. It is enough to use a mixture of tobacco infusion and soap solution. It is possible to avoid infection with all kinds of fungi with a significant amount of precipitation by preventive spraying with Bordeaux mixture.
For soapy spraying, 0.3 kg of laundry soap is usually used. A solution is made from it at a concentration of 3%. Alternatively, use 125 ml of liquid or 100 g of tar soap on the same 10 liters of water. Treatments are repeated daily until the aphids cease to manifest themselves.
Peony rust is removed by removing diseased foliage. It must be burned. Additionally, the plants are sprayed with Bordeaux liquid at a concentration of 1%. In case of infection with gray rot, all sore spots must be cut off immediately. For prevention, it is important to fight the ants that spread the infection.

The true chameleon Joker belongs to the herbaceous class and shows its unpredictable character with different color of the buds. On one bush, up to 10 flowers are simultaneously in a different phase of blooming, and all have a different color. Starting from dark pink, it gradually brightens, turning almost white with a contrasting pink border. Only the middle, consisting of carved, corrugated petals, holds a richer pink tone. This extravaganza of color and shape lasts 1 month, but the Joker's aroma is rather weak. Young seedlings are planted in a sunny flower bed, providing a loose fertile soil with an alkaline reaction in the planting hole. For good survival, the seedlings are regularly watered. Every year, in early spring and after flowering, the plant is fertilized with phosphorus-potassium fertilizers.
