Candidium Hybrid Care
Caring for a lily of this class is no different from caring for any beautifully blooming lily. Top dressing begins from the second or third year after planting (only on unimproved soil - the next year).
The plant is fed 2 or 3 times with full mineral fertilizers or fertilizers for bulbous plants - at the beginning of growth and during the budding period.
During the period of growing the peduncle and flowering, Candida is better protected from prolonged drought, but you should not overdo it with watering. The rest of the care is reduced to controlling weeds and preventing soil crusting.
The first sprouts of candida appear early enough, in unsuccessful years they are damaged by recurrent frosts. Lilies that wake up early at extremely unstable temperatures are covered with simple non-woven materials.
And the lily is snow-white, and its hybrids are plants that are not resistant to diseases. These are one of the most vulnerable types of bulbs to fungal infections. Powdery mildew is especially annoying for lovers of snow-white lilies.
To avoid the risk, it is worth annually prophylactically treating young plants with systemic fungicides or biologicals. For the prevention of powdery mildew, Bordeaux liquid is also sufficient. Usually, preventive treatment is carried out at the very beginning of active growth and in August, if the weather is damp.
These plants attract rodents. It is better to protect the bulbs by planting protective plants next to them, installing baits or planting bulbs in baskets.
The installation of supports is an optional measure, depending on how luxuriantly the lily blooms. In good seasons, Candidums produce inflorescences so large that the flower stalks cannot support their weight. In this case, if there are too many buds on the shoots, it is better to immediately put up the supports even before the flowers begin to bloom.
The resulting rosettes of candidum leaves for the winter are kept with a simple shelter - dry leaves or mulch and spruce branches, non-woven materials. The optimal layer of leaf cover is about 10 cm. If varieties or unnamed plants with unknown winter hardiness were purchased, the bulbs are weak, without roots (or small), then in the first winter it is better to dig out the plants or part of the plants. Excavated lilies are kept indoors. It is better not to keep the plants out of the soil, transferring them to pots or containers with an earthen clod.

Varieties.
1. LA - hybrids (abbreviation of the name from longiflorum asiatic) - hybrids resulting from the crossing of Asiatic and long-flowered lilies. Their fragrant flowers are larger (18-25 cm in diameter) than those of Asiatic lilies, while the petals and peduncles are less fragile. The color of flowers can be very varied and unusual: from snow-white to purple-burgundy, with all sorts of shade transitions. And lilies of some varieties from the LA hybrids group can completely change the color of flowers depending on age.
In addition, LA hybrids are unpretentious in cultivation, they reproduce easily.
Large and beautiful LA hybrids are versatile in use. They perfectly decorate gardens and parks, are easy to distill and look great when cut (do not fade for 10-14 days).
The most persistent and effective varieties from the LA hybrids group:
- Top Gun, Samur - pink flowers with a white center; Ercolano
- Indian Diamond, Daytona - orange flowers;
- Fray, Golden State - yellow flowers;
- Original Live - red flowers;
- Ercolano - white and lemon flowers;
- California - cherry blossoms
- Bright Diamond - white flowers

2. OT - hybrids, or orientpets
Black Beauty
(short for oriental trumpet) - hybrids resulting from the crossing of oriental and tubular lilies.First grade (Black Beauty). This lily grows up to 2 m in height and on one sturdy stem can withstand many large (20-25 cm in diameter) fragrant flowers of dark cherry color. The spectacular Black Beauty lily is still grown in many countries, and it seems that she does not intend to give up positions. Lilies of this group are also distinguished by a huge variety of flower colors, they grow well, many of them reproduce easily (they share themselves and grow many children) and winter well in the middle lane with light shelter. Ot-hybrids get sick less often than lilies of other groups, but sometimes they are affected by a viral mosaic.
Popular varieties from the group of OT hybrids:
- Sheherazade - dark red flowers with a white-yellowish edge and a white-green throat; Ercolano
- Georgetta - yellow flowers
- Honeymoon - pale yellow flowers
- Northern Carillon - large drooping flowers of a beet-purple tone with a white or pink border;
- Yelloween - light yellow flowers with white edges of the petals;
- Shocking - bright red flowers with a wide yellow border.

3. OA - hybrids. There are few varieties in this group due to the difficulties of hybridization. OA hybrids took their beauty from orientals (although they have a smaller flower - only 15 cm in diameter), and their resistance - from Asians, so they can grow well in the middle lane. Bloom in late July - August. But it is worth noting the Kaveri variety, in which the raspberry color of the center turns to red-orange, and at the tips it becomes amber-yellow.
4. LO - hybrids or longipets. They are distinguished by rather large fragrant funnel-shaped flowers, white or pink in color. The group is rather small.
Most often, several varieties of LO are grown - hybrids:
- Triumphator;
- Prince Promise;
- Queen's Promise;
- Sea Treasure.
Prince promise
Planted in a sunny place or in partial shade. They prefer fertile, neutral or slightly acidic soils. Bulbs do not tolerate stagnant moisture; dry shelter is required for the winter.
Types of lilies with photos and names
There are a fairly large number of species, both natural and created by breeders. Below are the most popular types.
Asiatic lily
Such plants include hybrid as well as garden species (for example, lily of David, tiger lily, etc.). And the Dutch lily also belongs to them. Such plants are the owners of a relatively small bulb. They grow and develop normally in almost any conditions. They are not afraid of either drought or too low air temperature. This species blooms very early, in June. There are compact dwarf varieties, their stem height is not more than 40 cm, but there are also varieties with the length of the shoots reaching 100 cm. The flower has the shape of a bowl. A fairly large number of flowers can grow on one bush.
Martagon (Curly hybrid lilies)
There are about 100 different types of such plants. They have rather long stems. These species are distinguished by their high frost resistance. Any soil is suitable for growing all these species, while the illumination does not really matter. However, this hybrid species has not gained much popularity among flower growers.
Candidium hybrids
It was from such a garden form that a lily of a pure white color was formed. This species does not have a very large number of varieties, but their flowers are incredibly fragrant, large enough and painted in rich colors.
This is not a complete list of lily species that grow both in nature and in gardens. Thanks to the labor of breeders, all new varieties appear. At the same time, hybrid plants have external differences, and also differ in the necessary growing conditions.
