Low-growing varieties of carnations
There is a separate group of garden plants intended for growing in rockeries - these are undersized species that are often used by flower growers as carpet. They are diminutive, small leaves create neat pads, plants bloom in early summer. This subspecies is also represented by some varieties of varieties.
Alpine carnation
The first heroine is the alpine carnation (D. alpinus). The flowering plant got this name for a reason: it is home to the mountains of Europe - the Alps, where carnations grow at an altitude of 1000-2500 m. This is a common species with densely sitting gray leaves. In this variety of carnations, flowers can be red or purple, they are mostly smooth, but there are also double forms. The garden plant reaches a height of 25 cm.
Alpine carnations do not have to be planted in a rock garden. It grows well and out of the blue - for example, next to a paved area
This variety prefers stony soil, which is important to consider when planting plants in open ground.

The seeds begin to ripen in August and can be stored for up to three months.

Carnation deltoid (D. deltoides) is also known as "grass", because it is grown by sowing, like ordinary grass. This species is the result of modern breeding. Unlike feathery, it does not crawl, but is very actively sown.
The plant is groundcover, forms dense turf up to 40 cm in diameter and up to 15 cm high. The grass has dark green bright leaves, and the flowers are different - white, bright red, pink, very small. Carnation blooms from summer to October. Blooms 12-14 weeks after sowing. After the flowers have faded, pods with a large number of seeds are formed in their place, they scatter to the ground, germinate and create a thick and dense floral carpet.
