Types of indoor anthurium
Decorative anthuriums are of commercial interest. It is they who are widespread as indoor culture. Different species differ from each other in the height of the petioles, the shape and size of the leaves, the color of the coverlet and the cob.
In stores and on window sills, you can often find the following:
- Anthúrium andraéanum or André anthurium stands out among others with a heart-shaped leaf and veil. The length of the petioles is up to 36 cm, the size of the leaf is a maximum of 30x12 cm, that is, it is a rather large flower. The ear is yellow, 6–10 cm long. The bedspread is glossy with protruding veins. Andre's characteristic colors are pink and salmon, less often white.
- Anthurium andreanum Dakota is the most popular species. Andre was the first cultivated anthurium, and Dakota is its improved sequel. The plant can reach a height of 110 cm. The flower has bright and rich shades: the coverlet is purple-red, the ear is sunny yellow.
- Anthúrium scherzeriánum (Scherzer) differs from the previous ones in short petioles (4–20 cm), which never exceed the length of the leaf (5–26 cm). The leaves are elongated in the form of an ellipse or lanceolate, pointed at the top, and obtuse at the base. The bedspread is heart-shaped, matte, with pubescence, colored orange or red. An ear of the same color, up to 8 cm long, is often bent at the end or twisted into a spiral. Flowering anthurium Scherzer lasts up to three months.
- Anthúrium crystallinum (Crystal) attracts with the beauty of its leaves. They are located parallel to the petioles and are decorated with veins of a lighter shade than the entire leaf. Crystal blooms very modestly: the bedspread is light green, long and narrow (9x2 cm). The ear is greenish-yellow, up to 12 cm long, straight, without any bends. But even such a modest flower has its own zest - it smells nice during the period of appearance of stamens.
The most common anthuriums in culture are Andre and Scherzer.
There are many more interesting species with wide leaves and light patterns on them: Excellent, Varoka, Majestic. Aturium Baker will appeal to lovers of indoor plants with long and narrow leaves. Anthurium Climbing grows as a liana. All of these species are attractive with leaves, but the flowers are inconspicuous.
Of the flowering and less common than André and Scherzer, anthuriums can be called:
- with a pink veil: Blush, Tennessee, Lady Love;
- with a red veil (from raspberry to almost black): Dark Red Anthurium, Otazu Brown, Black queen;
- with a green veil: Midori;
- with a white veil: White, White Heart;
- with yellow shades: Picasso, Lemona;
- bicolor: Watermelon Obake, Mauna Loa Obake, Rainbow Obake.
And this is not the whole list.

Varieties
The anthurium flower is at the same time its ear. The white variety has a long ear (about 9 cm), the cover is usually heart-shaped and has a variety of shades, in addition to white. It all depends on the variety, there are pink flowers with a yellow and green tint.
Along with such famous subspecies as "Andre" and "Scherzer", you can find other amazing varieties with a white color.
- "White Champion" is a short flower with an original appearance: a yellow ear in the middle of a snow-white bracts. Over time, the ear and bracts become a rich green color. Due to similar physical characteristics, this variety looks original.
- "White Heart" - a very attractive variety, has a bright pink ear in a white blanket.
- "Princess Amalia Elegance" - here the name speaks for itself. This variety has both ears and blankets of white color. The uniqueness is that delicate pink veins are located on the white bedspread, which increases the attractiveness of the flower.
- "Acropolis" is amazing for its rolling cob. Its base is light yellow, and the tips are bright yellow. It looks like a candle flame. Round and snow-white bracts in combination with large leaves will not go unnoticed. "Acropolis" - the owner of a large bedspread, as well as dense and oval leaves.
- "Polar Star". This variety has a white ear, which over time acquires a pinkish tint, and an elongated, pointed bracts, similar to the ray of a star. This is where the name of the flower comes from.
Peculiarities
Anthurium "Schercera" or "Schercerianum" is a popular houseplant that was brought from Costa Rica. It is a perennial flower with a small stem and dark colored leaves. Flowers form on long and smooth peduncles. During the flowering period, anthurium pleases with a yellow-orange shade of flowers, the length of which reaches a maximum of 8 centimeters. When the flowers fall, orange-red fruits appear in their place.
There are several varieties of this species, among them the equally beloved dwarf shrubs. Of all the anthuriums, it is this plant breeders who are considered the least demanding, but this does not mean that it is unpretentious and is able to withstand any conditions of detention.
Aturium care at home
Anthurium is not a simple indoor plant. The most unpretentious varieties of anthurium Scherzer, but they will develop better if they are provided with good lighting, especially in winter.
It is best to place anthuriums on the south or west window, preferably with additional lighting. In the summer, it is necessary to provide a light shade. To ensure abundant flowering when caring for aturium at home, a winter temperature decrease to + 15 ° C is necessary (except for crystal anthurium - this species is afraid of lowering even below +18 ° C). Dangerous for plants and drafts. It blooms more easily than other species and the fastest growing anthurium climbing.
Anthuriums have special requirements for watering and spraying: it should be watered abundantly in summer, slightly less in winter, preventing the earthen coma from completely drying out. The water should be well-settled or artificially softened, since the roots react very painfully to the slightest lime deposits.
For the same reason, you should take a plastic or glazed pot for planting (so that salt deposits do not occur on the inner surface of the walls). Plants can be sprayed only from a fine spray, but it is better to use special air humidifiers. Faded inflorescences of Andre and Schercera anthuriums are cut immediately after flowering so that they do not set seeds and weaken the plant.
Top dressing is carried out from March to September twice a month. They are transplanted every 2 years, necessarily forming a good drainage layer (about% of the volume of the pot). Anthuriums can be propagated by rooting the apical cuttings in wet sand and separating the lateral shoots with aerial roots. To stimulate the formation of such shoots, the base of the stem of an adult plant is covered with sphagnum moss. It can be propagated by seeds, but in this case, in varietal plants, the loss of specific characteristics is possible.
Diseases and pests
How to care for an anthurium if it is sick? Why does the flamingo flower stop blooming? How to save your favorite plant?
Visual inspection reveals the problem:
- The leaf blade turns yellow. Associated with insufficient light and heat. South window and additional lighting will help solve the problem
- Yellowing of the edges of the leaves. Depends on the dryness of the air. The problem arises at the beginning of the heating season and is solved by additional spraying. A pallet with expanded clay and water is placed under the plant, which creates a humid atmosphere
- Blackening and falling of the leaf blade. The problem is associated with watering with hard, tap water (or cold water), which is dominated by calcium salts.At the same time, the amount of potassium and magnesium is noticeably reduced. Anthurium suffers from a lack of some salts and begins to shed foliage
- Drying of leaves and the formation of yellow spots on them. Occurs when the direct rays of the sun fall on the plant. The leaves get burned, and part of the leaf blade dies off. Drying of leaves is also associated with the invasion of pests (aphids, spider mites)
- Black spots on the leaves. This is evidence that oxygen access to the roots is limited. Watering should be reduced and anthurium transplanted into a fresh (loose and breathable) earthen mixture.
With proper care, such problems will not arise, and anthurium pleases with external beauty
There is no clear instruction on how to make anthurium bloom. If the rules of care are followed, then he will open his colorful bedspread without additional manipulations.
Plant toxicity
The juice of most representatives of this. Aroid is poisonous. It contains calcium oxalate, which is irritating to the skin.
When working with a plant - reproduction, pruning, transplanting - rubber gloves should be worn to protect the skin. In case of burns, first aid measures must be taken. Anthurium is safe for domestic inhabitants: parrots, hamsters, cats, dogs.

Anthurium Scherzer: varieties and types with photos, home care
Anthurium from the Aroid family is the most numerous genus, numbering more than 500 species of evergreen herbaceous and liana-like plants. Due to its unpretentious care and undemanding to the conditions of detention, it is Scherzer's anthurium that has become widespread in indoor floriculture.
Home care for Scherzer's anthurium
Taking care of Scherzer's anthurium in a home environment is quite simple, without much effort. The main thing is not to forget about the tropical origin of the plant and create conditions close to natural for it.
Reproduction
At home, anthurium reproduces by vegetative methods, however, a seed reproduction method is also possible.
Dividing the bush
The simplest technique, in which:
- When transplanting, the extracted overgrown bush is divided into parts, each of which must have formed roots.
- Places of cuts are processed with crushed wood or activated carbon.
- Delenki are planted in individual pots with a drainage layer and a nutrient substrate.
Side shoots
Reception is also known as reproduction by children and is carried out with transfer:
- The side shoots are separated with a sterile sharp object and placed in a moist sand and peat substrate for rooting.
- After the formation of a full-fledged root system, new plants are planted in permanent pots.
Cuttings
Many varieties can be propagated by cuttings when:
- A part of the shoot with several aerial roots and 2-3 internodes is cut at an angle.
- The slice is treated with a growth stimulant to stimulate root formation.
- The stalk is buried 3-5 cm in wet vermiculite and covered with a bottle to create greenhouse conditions.
- For successful rooting, the cuttings are provided with high humidity, temperatures in the range of 23-26 ° C and long daylight hours with soft lighting.
- When a new plant has roots 4-5 cm long, Scherzer's anthurium can be planted in an individual container with a substrate for an adult plant.
Leaf propagation
Despite the fact that some members of the Aroid family can grow from a leaf, this does not apply to anthuriums. Often, under the wording, cuttings are hidden, implying a cut of a leaf plate with a part of the shoot. In this case, rooting is carried out according to the scheme described above.
Seed propagation
The seed method is laborious and unproductive in comparison with the vegetative method. As a rule, breeders resort to it when breeding new varieties and hybrids.
If the florist decided on a similar experience, then:
- During the flowering period, artificial pollination of the plant is carried out.
- After 8-12 months, ripe seeds are harvested.
- The seed is cleaned and disinfected in a manganese solution.
- The container is filled with a well-structured substrate, on the surface of which the seeds are distributed without embedding.
- The crops are covered with foil and moved to a warm, bright place, where they are systematically moistened and ventilated.
- After emergence, the film is removed.
- The first pick is carried out after the formation of a real sheet.
- As they grow at a slow pace, the seedlings dive a few more times.
