Hainan is a paradise for raw foodists, fruit-eaters and those looking to improve their figure. It's hot on the island, so you don't really want to eat fatty foods - fruits can be a great way to quench your thirst and hunger.

Prices for exotic fruits in Sanya are definitely lower than in Russia. But: be sure to bargain (pretend to leave and come back again; smile, take bargaining as a game - do not get annoyed)!

Remember that in China, prices for products by weight (including fruits) are indicated for half a kilogram !!!

Sanya - where to buy fruit:

in the markets: here is the lowest price, but you have to bargain to the last, the Chinese are in the bargaining master. The disadvantage is that fruit markets are not easy to find (they seem to be hidden from the eyes of tourists), some are open only on certain days of the week;
in stalls, located next to souvenir shops on the main streets of Dadonghai and Sanya (prices are average, you can bargain);
on the beach at the "wandering" sellers from nearby villages (they carry fruit on "rockers"): prices are average; however, we were unlucky: the mango we bought from them was unripe.
in supermarkets, for example, in the center of Sanya, next to McDonald's, here the price is fixed, but a little overpriced. If you don’t like or don’t know how to bargain, this is the place for you! Please note that on the price tags the price is indicated NOT for a kilogram, but for 500 grams !!!

Important: Before you buy a new fruit, try it. Vendors, as a rule, willingly provide a small piece for tasting. You can ask for it by gestures 😉 or by contacting in Chinese.

The vendors are ready to peel and cut the fruit for you. They do it professionally, competently (it is convenient to eat) and very aesthetically pleasing. However, if you are squeamish or very careful about your health, then take a knife with you on your trip to Hainan. After observing the seller and remembering how to professionally peel a new fruit, repeat this "trick" in your hotel room after you wash the fruit.

Sanya City is ready to offer guests large selection of fruits. However, remember that the body is not always happy with a new product, so just in case carry an allergy medicine with you.

This is interesting: the Chinese consider cherry tomatoes not vegetables, but fruits. And they use them, for example, as a decoration for a cake. By the way, tomato salad is widespread in China, which is seasoned not with salt, but (!) With sugar.

Mango - if you bought a mango in Russia, you can safely say goodbye to these memories and rediscover this fruit for yourself. Its godlike! Delicate, sweet, juicy, aromatic ... Moreover, we like mangoes both small (the size of two thumbs) and large (palm-sized). Learn from sellers to correctly cut a bone. And enjoy the juicy pulp. Delicious juice and ice cream are obtained from fresh mangoes.
Durian, or "stinky" fruit. Outwardly it looks like a bumpy green handball ball. The pulp is light yellow in color. Sweet and unusual taste. The specific smell of fruit is not felt on the street, but in the room ... That is why it is forbidden to bring durian to the hotel (take pity on yourself and your neighbors). Personally, we don't like durian, but the Chinese are crazy about it and add to everything that is possible.Ice cream or dessert with durian flavor, in our opinion, is a product with the taste and smell of onions - wasted money and spoiled mood.
Mangosteen - pale pink or white flesh enclosed in a hard brown-purple shell. Scientists do not get tired of declaring the beneficial properties of this magical fruit (they talk a lot about losing weight). Mangosteen juice costs crazy money. It is interesting that both the "shell" and the pulp itself are useful. The mangosteen cloves are shaped like garlic. This is a fruit that I am very addicted to. I fell in love with him for his tenderness and juiciness. Although to be honest, I did not immediately learn how to break it in half. By the way, if you have a manicure, be careful: the juice of the peel is painted, your well-groomed nails risk turning into the burgundy-cinnamon nails of an old woman ...
Dragon Fruit - white flesh with black small grains (roughly like kiwi or strawberries - it will also crunch gently), hidden under a bright pink peel, similar in shape to a dragon's flame (which is why it is called a dragon's egg). Sometimes the flesh can be bright crimson in color. This fruit is easy to cut and eat in slices - it is very tender. A very beautiful fruit. The taste is not for everybody. At first we "pounced" on him, but cooled down quickly enough. But it's definitely worth a try! Also, this fruit is convenient for transportation - if you want to please your family with exotic things.
Longan - sold, as a rule, in bunches. The fruit is slightly smaller than a ping-pong ball: ocher-colored shell, white-transparent flesh and a bone that we do not eat. Tasty and unusual. Something like grapes.
Papaya - I noticed that the locals practically do not eat it raw, but use it in the preparation of national dishes of Chinese cuisine. The flesh of a bright red color is hidden under the skin of a green, yellow color. In the middle there are small, pretty, round seeds-bones. The fruit itself is loose on the sensation. I am allergic to this fruit. Therefore, I am biased towards him 😉
Coconut - I want to immediately warn against disappointment. For some reason, we, natives of cold Russia, are used to thinking that coconut water is coconut milk. But this is not the case. The latter is artificially obtained from the pulp of coconut (coconut milk can be purchased inexpensively in shops in the city of Sanya). And what they drink through a straw is coconut water. Very healthy, contains many nutrients. Especially recommended for athletes. But let's be honest, not very sweet and tasty. Coconut pulp is a real yummy! However, it is not so easy to crack a coconut yourself - therefore, after drinking the coconut "juice", ask the seller to help you crack the nut.
Annona scaly (sugar apple) - seemingly a cross between a pear and a toy Christmas tree cone - the peel is light green, the flesh is white-yellow. The fruit tastes very sweet, delicate and soft. Not cheap.
Cane (not a fruit, but worth a try) - very juicy and healthy. It is sold in the form of peeled "sticks", or cut into small pieces from which you need to suck the juice.

All this variety of fruits can be tasted and appreciated in different countries of Asia: China, Cambodia, Thailand, Vietnam, etc.

Old acquaintances:

watermelon - sold in slices, half and whole. The watermelons are delicious here, they quench their thirst well, but they do not reach our Astrakhan ones 😉
pineapples are very juicy. I love how they are professionally and aesthetically cleaned from prickly peels in China. Carving pineapple on your own is very dreary.
apples are often imported, so they are not cheap;
tangerines - delicious, juicy, inexpensive (depending on the season);
bananas are smaller in size than those we are used to in Russia. In our opinion, they are tasteless, "soapy" here.

Be sure to try freshly made ice cream from fresh fruits, mixed in a blender!
