When arranging a warm bed, of course, it is necessary to spend some effort, and, frankly, considerable. But the end result is definitely worth it. Let's analyze this “epoch-making” event step by step.

First of all, you need to select excess soil from the garden along the contour and in depth. It is clear along the contour of the garden bed, especially since there is a fence made of boards. But it is necessary to deepen at least 40 cm (if you want enough heat to be released during the decomposition of organic matter). When removing soil, you can study its structure in sufficient detail. We have a large number of large stones and a close (at a depth of about 15-20 cm) location of clay layers.

Growing carrots

For the successful cultivation of this root crop, it is necessary, in particular, to create optimal starting conditions. We cannot influence the weather conditions in any way, therefore we carefully monitor the temperature regime of the soil, but not to the detriment of its moisture content. I will practically explain how to do this using my own example.

As soon as the bed has cleared of snow cover, I cover it with a dark polyethylene film. At the same time, moisture remains under the film and, at the same time, the temperature of the soil rises. An accompanying bonus is cutting off rapidly growing weeds from sunlight, which is a depressing factor for them. I keep the film in the garden for about 2-3 weeks. When the soil layer warms up to about 12 degrees, I sow the seeds prepared in advance.

Preparation from emyan. 

I pour seeds into a half-liter jar half-filled with water. Stir thoroughly. I remove the floating seeds. You can add a little table salt to the water to increase the density. Then I move the seeds into a small cotton cloth, twist the ends of the cloth in such a way that it looks like a bag. I pour water warmed up to about 50 degrees (so that my hand can “tolerate”) water into the jar, and start rinsing the seeds. At the same time, essential oils are washed off from the surface of the seeds, the water is painted in a characteristic color, a specific smell is felt. The procedure can be carried out 2-3 times. The seeds are dried.

Sowing seeds.

If the soil in the bed is dry, it is necessary to moisten it well enough to a sufficient depth. When the top layer dries out a little, make grooves with a compacted bottom with a small cut of a board with a flat end surface.(The depth of the groove is about 2-3 cm, the distance between the grooves is 15-20 cm). With the help of the seeder, seeds are placed at a distance of 5-6 cm from each other.

The seeds are covered with compost (soil) and compacted a little by hand. The garden bed can be covered with a thin covering material.

Due to unfavorable weather conditions in 2014, I carried out planting of carrots on June 12-13. Thanks to the above technology, the seedlings of the culture appeared in one week.

Cucumber cascade

It so happened that in 2014 I planted cucumbers quite late, even for our region - on June 20: one plant - with seedlings, and three - with seeds. Planting was carried out in a greenhouse made of cellular polycarbonate 4 meters long. The cucumber bed turned out to be 4 m long and about 50 cm wide. Only 4 plants were planted here. I planted 3 seeds in the holes. After germination, I left the strongest ones one by one in the hole.

Later, plants from seeds caught up with a cucumber grown by seedlings. Two cucumbers of the Emerald Stream variety, two - Herman varieties. As it developed, I did not pinch the plants of these varieties, only tied up lateral shoots (there were not many of them, about 5 per bush). As you can clearly see, the plants do not shade each other.

Cucumber care consisted in the following: mulching with chopped nettles, foliar feeding (spraying) - once every two weeks with a bio cocktail, root feeding - once a week (with liquid from EM-silage and horse "Orgavit" solution) 0.5 liters each ( before fruiting). There was no watering at all.

Results: 134 fruits were harvested from two German bushes during the season.

From two plants "Emerald Stream" - 16 fruits with a total length of 5.5 meters of very good quality and taste.

According to my observations, the optimal size of the "Emerald Stream" fruit without deterioration in taste should be 40-45 cm. And although the cucumber of this variety is considered a salad, it is perfectly subject to canning in pieces). The last cucumbers were harvested on September 22nd.
