Opaque summary
Opaque is the highest grade of faience - a material for making dishes, figurines, sculptures, washbasins, bathtubs, toilets and other ceramics. The main component of earthenware is white clay, or kaolin; earthenware also contains various impurities of gypsum, spar and other substances used in ceramics.
Opaque differs from ordinary faience in greater fire resistance and better quality, it includes high-quality white clay and an admixture of feldspar: minerals that are the main components of rocks, their color ranges from pure white to bluish or red. Spar is used as a substance that, when fired, fills the porous structure of clay products and contributes to better fastening of clay molecules to each other and greater strength of the product.
Opaque products are distinguished by smooth lines, sophistication, delicacy of forms and various ways of decorating them: it can be just different colors of the whole product, or the application of ornaments, patterns and pictures.
