The best varieties of Kraynova grapes

In this article I will describe almost all varieties of the selection of Viktor Nikolayevich Krainov.

Photo by Roman Prikhodko (he is the winner of the competition “The best bunch of Ukraine in Magarach” for the second year)

Low resistance to mildew, vigorous, in the south it ripens at the end of August, here in the first decade of September. People like the taste, harmonious, such as floral tones are present. Good color, berries are even and large (16g) and bunches are thrown out normal, not scanty.

PS

I can’t resist, I’ll express my opinion. If we are talking about white-berry varieties, then you involuntarily compare them with Arcadia. It ripens later, and the size of the berry is the same, and the stability is so-so. Dot.

Anyuta (Talisman × Radiant Kishmish)

Photo of Kokcheev Abdulmejit

In terms of resistance to mildew, as I understand it, it is weaker than Arcadia, but vinifera are better, for oidium, the opposite is true.
Taste, there is nutmeg, similar to radiant Kishmish (and this is very cool), the skin is dense. Some have it bursting after the rains. Well, the marketable h-ki are impressive - large bunches with large berries. Ripens differently for everyone - from August 20 to September 20. Vigorous. Update for 2016. I have been growing for 3 years. I have not seen the harvest. The first year of fruiting - not ripe, the second - burned out from oidium. Disease resistance is very poor - the very first picks up what mildew and oidium. I threw it away.

Ataman (Talisman x Rizamat)

According to Sergei Sidoryaka, it has the largest berries of all varieties growing in our country. The taste is simple, ripens very late - in the south in the second half of September, prone to bunch rot and berry cracking. Vigorous and can handle the load well, disease resistance is not bad.

Blagovest
Photo by Sergey Verchenko (Kupyansk, Kharkiv region)

Ripe (Kiev region) - 2011 - September 25, 2010 - early September. A suicidal variety, throws out a lot of inflorescences, normalization is necessary. There is an uneven ripening of berries in a bunch (most likely from overload) and, even worse, some of the berries may simply remain green, vigorous. The taste is very good, some call it with duchess, often there is nutmeg in the berries. Suffers from cross-pollination, you need to cut the berries. Resistance to diseases is very good, to rot in a bunch too. The berry does not crack.

Bogatyanovsky
Photo by Boris Kovalev (Kramatorsk, Donetsk region)

The berries are very large, the clusters are medium, the taste is simple, but here opinions are divided - many people like it, the pulp is liquid. Resistance to mildew, good to powdery mildew, weak, ripens a week later than Talisman. Medium-sized.

Long awaited
Photo by Boris Kovalev (Kramatorsk, Donetsk region)

The strength of growth is great, it ripens with Arkadia, it bursts in the rains. The berries inside the bunch can rot, not transportable, the berry comes off from the stalk during transportation. Delicious, crispy pulp consistency. Some attribute it to raisins, but some berries have seeds, and some do not. Some have peas, some don't. As I understand it, the stability is not bad, at least no one has burned out from mildew :)

Ermak
the best varieties of Kraynova grapes My photo from the vineyard of Leonid Nechmilov (Nikopol, Dnepropetrovsk region)

I saw him personally at Leonid Nechmilov's. 50% of the berries in a bunch are peas. I think all the other x-ki are no longer interesting.

Favor The berry is very large. In the south in 2011, it ripened in early September. Usually he will sing on later on the Talisman. The taste is simple, the berry is liquid. Slightly less cracking than Ataman and slightly better taste, not peas. I didn't understand anything else from him 🙂

Helios (Arcadia x kishmish Nakhodka)

Photo of the Eliseevs (Ordzhonikidze, Dnepropetrovsk region)

The bunch is loose. Does not require cutting berries. The taste is simple, but nutmeg sometimes breaks through better than the three. Disease resistance is not bad, at the level of Arcadia. Transportable.

Frankincense-2

A dense berry with a pronounced nutmeg. The people are dragged by the taste. Disease resistance is good. Doesn't pop. In 2010 it ripened in the first ten days of August in the south. Throws out small inflorescences.

PS

I was personally interested in this variety by the ripening period, taste and stability. But if next year I don't see normal bunches of anyone, I'll have to forget about him.

Radiant (Kesha-1 x Kishmish Radiant)

There is no real information on it at all.

Reliable

Poor resistance to powdery mildew. The taste is nutmeg. Peas, in terms of timing, it will sing along with the very early Elegance (this is very cool, in this 2011 ES ripened with me in the first decade of August)

Find

There is no real information on it at all.

My photo from the vineyard of Sergei Sidoryaka

I saw her at Sergei Sidoryaka during 3 fruiting. Always there were some unfulfilled bunches and the size of the berry was not so hot. But this 2011 year he succeeded.
The berry is round, it is often confused with the cardinal. I have forgotten the taste, but many complain about the astringency in the skin. In the south, it sings in the last decade of August. Medium height.

Lowland (Kesha-1 x Radiant Kishmish)

the best varieties of Kraynova grapes My photo from the vineyard of Sergei Sidoryaka

Good bunches, good stability. To oidium - average, to mildew good. Large clusters and berries do not rot, do not crack. The taste is not for everybody, a lot of acid, juicy. In the south, it ripens in the first decade of September, but in our country at least it ripens by the last. Vigorous.

First-Called Photos from Depropetrovsk

Very early marketable grapes. The Eliseevs in Ordzhenikidze have ripened at the beginning of August this year! Decent taste. But it can peas. Disease, average. Vigorous.

PS

I think to try it myself. Since it is vigorous, it seems to me that you can try pinching during flowering to combat peas.

Transformation
the best varieties of Kraynova grapes

My photo from the vineyard of Sergei Tretyak (Nikopol, Dnepropetrovsk region)

A very large and very elongated berry. With my own eyes I saw a berry 5 cm long. The taste is simple. The stability is good. It is not always true that it turns pink, but you just need to keep the berry in the shade and so that you can only see the rising and setting sun. On an ordinary one-plane trellis with 12 leaves, it does not behave very well, the leaves work for wear and tear. You need to give 30 sheets to escape. With my own eyes on the Tretyak Vineyard in Nikopol I saw a bunch of well over 4 kg, probably.

Anniversary of Novocherkassk
See Transfiguration - these are twin varieties.

Zarnitsa.

See Long-awaited. The same.

See Transfiguration. The same.

Maybe I'm wrong, maybe there are some differences, but I think that the stock, soil and place of cultivation will have a greater impact 🙂 In short, I took and cut this Gordian knot with confusion by varieties.

Early gourmet

My photo from the vineyard of Sergei Sidoryaka

Even Luchik tastes better. Very early, for 2011 was ready at the beginning of August. Not resistant to mildew, weak. Although the berries are large, they are not uniform in a bunch. The bunches are large. CFZhT. Transportable. There is also a Gourmet-Gourmet and a Gourmet flashlight, but they ripen later, and their berries are smaller, they are not interesting for the market.

Update for 2016. I grew up for 4 years. Poor pollination every year. A couple of berries in a bunch and that's it. The strength of growth is weak, the resistance to diseases is weak, but still a little better than Anyuta. Threw away.

Amateur selection is a very promising component of viticulture, which has already presented the world with many wonderful varieties that bring healthy and tasty sunny berries. Sometimes the creations of popular authors-enthusiasts surpass in their amazing qualities the work of even experienced scientists. The grapes of Viktor Nikolaevich Krainov are a vivid example of successful experiments carried out in far from laboratory conditions.

General description of the breeding work of the author

A short but capacious description of the grape forms bred by this talented breeder is given by such epithets as large, solid, voluminous, impressive, giant, gigantic. It's all about their amazing brushes and berries. The varieties of V.N.Krainov today adequately withstand considerable competition even with new and improved plant hybrids, often winning the fight for the love of both inexperienced gardeners and farmers who grow grapes on an industrial scale. Their number is also impressive, including more than 45 items.

A description of the most common varieties will help to understand the reasons for the enormous popularity of the people and the popularity of grapes beyond the borders of the country by the authorship of V.N.Krainov.

General description of the Krainov triple

Some grape varieties obtained by the breeder enjoy special national honor. Hybrids Victor, Novocherkassk Anniversary and Preobrazhenie make up the famous Krainovskaya troika, interest in which has not faded to this day. Currently, the growers have not come to a consensus about whether these are different forms of the plant or still one variety. Such disagreements have a fairly good reason, because all three hybrids are almost indistinguishable in appearance, have similar agrotechnical properties, give large brushes and beautiful fruits of large size and excellent taste.

Description of the variety Victor

Hybrid table grapes Victor, also called Krainov's Gift, is relatively young, but it is simply impossible to pass by him: his magnificent bunches, like a magnet, attract the eye and remain in the memory for a long time. It belongs to the group of pink grape varieties, although the color spectrum of its fruits is quite wide: reaching full maturity, they can turn from yellowish-pink to dark red. A hybrid was obtained as a result of cross-pollination of Radiant Kishmish with the Talisman variety. He became one of the first successful creations of V. N. Krainov.

The cone-shaped volumetric clusters of the hybrid are impressive in size, their average weight reaches 1 kg, and with full compliance with the rules of growing and caring for the plant, you can get a crop and weigh 2 kg each. The density of the berries on them is average. The fruits are oval in shape, slightly tapering towards the tip. In length they can reach up to 4-6 cm, and in width - up to 3 cm. The average weight of the berry is 10-20 g. Their flesh is dense, fleshy, it contains a lot of juice. It is inside a strong, but almost imperceptible skin when eaten and contains 1-2 bones. The fruit has a harmonious taste.

The hybrid does not have a tendency to peel berries; even in unfavorable years, Victor's harvest is approximately the same size. Due to its dense shell, the fruit is almost not damaged by wasps.

The color of the fruit is determined by the amount of sunlight falling on the berry during ripening. The more light the bunch received, the richer and brighter it is. The sugar content in berries is about 17%. The crop easily withstands transportation, while maintaining a high-quality look.

Good ripening is inherent in the vine of this grape (almost 70% of the length). It is powerful and has an interesting reddish hue. Shoots are characterized by high vigor. The root system of the bushes is strong and well developed. Unpretentious seedlings root easily, which greatly facilitates reproduction. The hybrid has flowers of both sexes, so other grape forms are not required to be planted next to it to pollinate the inflorescences. The productivity of the bushes is high: from one plant you can get up to 6 kg of juicy fruits.

The variety is distinguished by early ripening of the crop, its growing season lasts about 100-120 days. You can enjoy sweet berries from the bush at the end of July or the first half of August, depending on the climatic conditions of the growing region.

The hybrid form Victor is able to withstand frosts down to -23C, but it is still better to cover the vines for the winter. Its resistance to fungal infections and pests is high. To prevent infection, it is recommended to spray the grape bushes with chemicals twice before flowering and once after fruit set.

Description of varieties Anniversary of Novocherkassk and Transfiguration

Parents of the hybrid Novocherkassk Anniversary are unknown. The Transfiguration variety is the result of a complex crossing of the grape forms Talisman and Kishmish Radiant. Outwardly, both hybrids strongly resemble the Victor variety already described. They are distinguished only by their finer fruits.

Rich brushes of large size and medium density cannot leave indifferent even a person far from viticulture. The average weight of a bunch ranges from 0.8-1.7 kg, and giants weighing up to 3 kg are often found. The fruits are in the shape of an elongated oval. They are large, usually weighing 12-19 g, reaching 3.8 cm in length and up to 2.3 cm in width. There is information from gardeners that the length of the berry can be up to 5.2 cm.

The color of the fruits changes as they ripen from white or yellow-pink to deep pink. Their taste is quite simple, but harmonious. The sugar content in berry juice is 16.8%, and the acidity level is 5.9 g / dm³. Berries are characterized by a rapid loss of acidity when they reach maturity, therefore, even not quite ripe-looking fruits already acquire a pleasantly sweet taste.

Fruiting is consistently high. Due to the large size of the brushes and fruits, hybrid forms need to be rationed. To obtain a high-quality result, it is recommended to keep only one bunch on the shoot. Another way to solve the problem is to pinch the lower part of the hand by one third or a quarter. Such a procedure is carried out at the initial stages of the formation of a bunch, when the berries are still pea-sized.

The harvest is ripening early. Resistance to frost at Victor's level (up to -23C). Resistance to infections of a fungal nature is increased (3-3.5 points). The crop has excellent transportability and excellent presentation, so both hybrids are often grown for sale.

Description of other popular varieties

The legacy of the national breeder V.N.Krainov, who devoted his life to growing and breeding grapes, is truly enormous and absolutely all the varieties he received deserve attention. The work of this talented author was first appreciated in 1998, when he was harvested from the hybrids he received, called the Lowland. In 1999, the varieties Nina, Tuzlovsky giant, Pervozvanny, Blagovest were bred, and in subsequent years this list was constantly updated.

According to Krainov, his main achievement was the Transfiguration form. Its appearance for the author was akin to a revolution in the cultivation of grape varieties for dining purposes. Viktor Nikolaevich especially singled out the white grape Zarnitsa, noting its great prospects for industrial cultivation of the plant, and the hybrids Bogotyanovsky and Princess Olga, whose berries reach simply gigantic sizes. But the creator himself admitted that the last variety needs to be improved due to the tendency of the crop to crack.

The grape variety Anyuta is one of the author's favorites. It is distinguished by its tender pulp that literally melts in the mouth and light nutmeg notes in the taste. But the hybrid form of Sympathy, whose second name, Victor-2, speaks for itself, cannot be confused with any other variety due to the extravagant raspberry color of its berries and their unique taste.

It is difficult to overestimate the merits of V.N.Krainov in viticulture. He brought breeding work in the country to a qualitatively new level and became an example for many generations of enthusiasts-lovers of sunny berries. At the same time, the author set a very high bar, the desire to achieve which on the part of his followers continues to replenish the list of grape forms with new wonderful varieties. He proved to the whole world that sincere love, hard work and dedication to his work can achieve tremendous success.

Diseases and pests

It is noteworthy that it is almost not affected by fungal diseases. It has a high degree of resistance to diseases, almost does not undergo pest attacks. To protect it, it must be borne in mind that clay soils should be used for planting, but salt marshes and limestones will cause plant diseases.

"Victor" will give an excellent harvest only when planted in sunny areas, preferably without drafts. Be sure to use soil mulching and fertilizers, preferably organic.

Such common grape diseases as mildew, oidium and gray rot are not terrible for "Victor". However, experienced growers recommend carrying out chemical treatment for prevention 2 times before flowering bushes and 1 time after.

Grape lovers - wasps - do not do much damage to the crop of this hybrid due to its dense skin. It is enough to arrange bottle traps with sweet compote.
