Cucumbers Masha F1, characteristics

This Dutch hybrid is intended for outdoor cultivation only in the southern regions, in the middle lane it is recommended to grow it in a greenhouse.

The seeds are packed in Holland. The manufacturer warns that the seeds are already treated with thiram and do not require soaking before planting.

Cucumbers Masha are early ripe, subject to agricultural technology, they begin to bear fruit on the 36th day after germination. They are high-yielding and, conveniently, parthenocarpic (self-pollinating, not requiring pollination by bees).

Plants are determinate, which means that the growth of the main stem is limited by the flower race. Feminine flowering type. Abundant fruiting is achieved due to the bouquet-laying of ovaries at the plant nodes (up to 7 ovaries per node).

The cucumbers themselves are dark green, large-lumpy, weighing 90-100 grams, 3-3.5 cm in diameter, with light stripes of medium length and mild spotting, with a thick skin and white spines. The length of the fruits is stated to be 11 cm, but we recommend removing them at a length of 8-9 cm. By doing this, we provoke the development of new ovaries, which gives an increase in the yield from the bush as a whole. The fruits are genetically without bitterness.

Cucumber Masha is intended by the manufacturer for fresh consumption. In 2000, this hybrid was included in the State Register of the Russian Federation as salad and canning. Cucumbers Masha F1 show excellent taste both in pickling and fresh. The fruits do not lose their firmness and remain crispy in conservation. Also zelentsy tolerate transportation well.

Cucumber yield Masha more than 10 kg / sq. m. (subject to agricultural technology).

The hybrid is resistant to cladosporiosis, cucumber mosaic virus, powdery mildew.

Cucumbers Cupid F1

Recommended for outdoor cultivation.

The plants of this cucumber are powerful, slightly branched, with a long main stem. The length of the stalk is 5-7 cm, which makes harvesting easier. Requires formation.

During formation, blinding is carried out (all stepsons and ovaries are removed) in the first 3-4 leaf axils of the main lash, which allows the plant to form a strong root system and gain green mass. In the 5-6 knot, only 1-2 ovaries are left, removing the stepsons. And starting from 6-7 knots, ovaries and lateral shoots are left, pinching them after the 1st leaf. But in the upper tier, the lateral shoots are pinched after 2-3 leaves, depending on the density of plantings. When the plant reaches the horizontal trellis, the main stem is wrapped around it 2-3 times, then lowered down by 50-80 cm and pinched.

The fruits are large tuberous, small (9-12 cm long, weighing 70-100 grams), the skin is green, with blurred white stripes of medium length. Pubescence is frequent, spines are black. The pulp is dense, crispy, aromatic. These cucumbers are good for pickling, which is confirmed by numerous reviews of gardeners, but they are also very tasty fresh and salads.

Your reviews will help many gardeners choose the best varieties of open field cucumbers for planting.

Cucumbers are one of the most "ancient" vegetables cultivated in Russia, as historians note, back in the 9th century. In the records of those times, it was noted that cucumbers in Russia grow better, faster and more abundantly than in European countries. It is the simplicity of cultivation and the versatility of using this wonderful vegetable that became the reasons for the special love of Russians for growing cucumbers. We will consider the best varieties of cucumbers for open ground right now.

What do cucumbers need for successful growth? Let's start with the main rules and short videos that every novice gardener should take note of.

Three rules for successful cultivation of ground cucumbers

I. Grow varieties of different ripening periods. Among the many varieties, there are excellent early, mid and late ripening cucumbers. Early and middle varieties are suitable for all regions of Russia (subject to adaptation to the local climate). Late cucumbers are best grown in southern regions, or greenhouse conditions, so that they have time to ripen in favorable thermal conditions.

II. Choose from a variety of varietiesto grow cucumbers both for fresh consumption and for pickling. Any cucumbers can be eaten fresh, especially large early-ripening fruits with a thin skin and a minimum amount of seeds. These cucumbers are juicy, sweet and taste good without bitterness. Many varieties of ground cucumbers have been bred for salting. Their fruits are firm, crunchy and small in size.

III. For the most successful harvest, try to buy zoned varieties. The agronomists of our country are constantly working on special varieties of cucumbers for specific regions of Russia. The seed packages contain information about the optimal ripening conditions for each variety.

Cucumber varieties can be divided into three types: pickling, canned and salad

Salting varieties

These cucumbers are not large and not very dense. To taste, they may not be attractive when fresh, therefore they are grown by experienced gardeners precisely for salting. This cooking method reveals all the taste qualities of pickled varieties.

Canned varieties

These varieties are used for winter clogging. They are similar in appearance to pickling varieties and may have similar tastes. The main difference between canned cucumbers and pickled cucumbers is the density of the pulp and the structure of the fruit. Canned greens are denser and keep their shape well in jars.

Salad cucumbers

The fruits of salad varieties can be large, juicy flesh with a sweetish taste, since they have a higher sugar content than pickled and canned cucumbers. The peel of fresh greens is usually thin and smooth.

You can distinguish a variety suitable for conservation by the color of the pimples on the fruits. Cucumbers with light pimples are called "white-spiked". These varieties are only suitable for fresh consumption. Zelentsy with black thorns ("black thorns") can be salted and preserved.

Which cucumbers can be grown outdoors?

Ground cucumbers do not require artificial pollination, as they usually grow in open areas, in the area of insect access. For open ground, self-pollinated varieties are used mainly in areas where natural pollination is difficult (rainy summers, few insects, etc.). There are also parthenocarpic cucumbers, in which the fruits are formed without pollination. Any of the listed species can bear fruit well in the ground. You just need to create favorable conditions for them. More on this later, but now let's look at the best and most productive varieties of cucumbers for open ground.

I. Germination of seeds

For professional gardeners, sprouting cucumbers is a must. This allows you to reject low-quality seeds, protect crops during hatching and reduce the ripening period of the variety. To germinate, soak the seeds in a manganese solution for a couple of hours, then wrap them in a wet cloth or cotton wool.

To germinate cucumber seeds will help you pre-soaking them in a weak manganese solution. Leave dry seeds in warm potassium permanganate for 2 hours, and then wrap with a damp cloth. The seeds need to be constantly moistened, but be careful not to float in the water.

II. Determination of soil quality

Cucumbers do not grow well in heavy soils with high acidity. The soil for open varieties should be light and fertile. The ideal option for cucumbers is sandy loam and slightly loamy soils. How to check the ground? Here are the simplest tricks: if wet soil is easy to roll out into a cord and roll up, it is heavy clay soil; loamy soil rolls out, but does not roll up; sandy loam soil can be rubbed with your fingers; sandy soil does not mold and crumbles in hands.

Heavy soil can be adapted for planting cucumbers by diluting it in half with sand and clay. It is also necessary to fertilize the soil mixture. For this, wood ash, bone meal, ready-made superphosphate, manure or ammonium nitrate are suitable.

The best soil for planting cucumbers is light loam. You can check a suitable soil without additional research. You need to take a handful of earth and grind it between your fingers. You can roll out loamy soil into a bundle, but you will not be able to roll it up, as the earth will disintegrate

III. Fertilizing the soil

The soil must be made nutritious before planting cucumbers. To do this, you can add manure, ammonium nitrate, superphosphate or wood ash to the soil mixture.

IV. Seedling method of growing cucumbers

In the conditions of the northern climate, seedling growing of cucumbers is becoming more and more popular. Seeds are sown at home in early May. Already after 2-3 weeks, the seedlings can be determined in the open ground, at which time a steady warming begins in the northern regions of Russia. At first, it is better to cover the seedlings with lutrasil at night. This method allows the variety to harvest earlier and in full. You can prepare seedlings in the following way:

Cucumbers emerge very quickly after sowing for seedlings. Within a couple of weeks you will receive ready-made strong seedlings for open ground. This must be taken into account when planning plantings in cool climates so that your cucumbers do not grow in pots.

It is important to plant seeds or seedlings at a soil temperature of at least 16 degrees, otherwise the cucumbers may simply freeze. The land around the plantings must be constantly loosened, avoiding drying out and excessive moisture of the soil.

You can determine the best varieties of cucumbers described above for yourself. You should definitely try a variety of seeds for your area and climate. We wish you successful and fruitful plantings!

the best varieties of ground cucumbers

The variety of cucumbers matters. How to navigate in general in the abundance of cucumber varieties and choose the ones you need is described in detail and sequentially in the article Choosing varieties of cucumbers. Let me briefly recall the main points.

First of all, you need to answer yourself for 3 questions:

  1. Where do you intend to grow cucumbers: in a greenhouse, a greenhouse, in the open field or even on a windowsill?
  2. When do you want to harvest: early June, July or August?
  3. How long do you want to harvest cucumbers?

So, early varieties of cucumbers more susceptible to diseases, and the term of their fruiting, in comparison with the later ones, is much shorter. And, despite the fact that the division of cucumbers into early, medium and late is somewhat arbitrary, the choice of the variety will depend on the answers to these 3 questions.

Only correctly selected varieties are not so scary disease, which most often affect cucumbers in the middle zone: powdery mildew, downy mildew and bacteriosis, therefore, when choosing a variety, you should pay special attention to itsresistance to these diseases... To cope with the misfortune will help the article "Ambulance" for cucumbers: prevention and treatment of diseases.

Not every variety of cucumbers is suitable for pickling.

Another question: what exactly do you need cucumbers for - for eating fresh or for pickling? Their varieties are conventionally divided into 3 groups according to their purpose: pickling, salad, universal... Naturally, each of the varieties has its own advantages, but everyone should choose the optimal one for himself, depending on his needs and desires. For example, I always plant half of the pickling varieties and 25% each for salad and universal.

By the way, the secrets of cultivation have already been discussed in this article, and it can also be useful when choosing varieties.

Well, we are with you, having finished with the theory, we will move on to the descriptions of the most popular varieties of cucumber in the middle lane for greenhouses, open ground, shady areas and a home garden.
