Varieties of gladioli: video
Bright and majestic gladioli are called the kings of the flower garden for a reason. Hundreds of different shades, incredible shapes of inflorescences, corrugation - this flower amazes, delights, enchants.
Today there are more than five thousand different varieties and hybrids of a magnificent flower, and it is difficult to choose the best from this variety.
Description of the variety and characteristics
The selection of gladioli is in full swing, and it should be noted that Russian growers are in the forefront. In the United States, the emphasis is on growing small-flowered varieties; in the Netherlands, old varieties are being dealt with, whose potential is drying up. But in Russia, work is underway to breed and reproduce precisely large-flowered varieties, hybrids, characterized by long and lush flowering and adapted to the conditions of the country. It is clear that one and the same variety can give completely different buds in the southern region and in the North-West, therefore it is very important to select the varieties that are optimal for a particular area.
The best varieties of gladioli are those that begin to delight flower growers already in the first half of summer, hold inflorescences for a long time, are distinguished by juicy colors and a large number of buds. They stand perfectly in cut, are beautiful in flower plantings in flower beds, and are used to create various compositions. Through the efforts of breeders, a huge number of hybrids and varieties have been bred, which required the creation of a single ordered form of recording for the description of flowers. The generally accepted classification of the gladiolus society, adopted in North America (American). The Russian system is practically the same, since it takes into account the size of flowers, shade, color saturation, flowering time, as well as corrugation. Each variety has a coding, and it is quite easy to determine the basic parameters of gladiolus using it. In the brief description, the height of the plant is not set, but it is always taken into account in the detailed one, in the same way they give the technical characteristics of the variety (purpose, resistance to diseases, various weather conditions, transportability).
Gladioli of the Russian selection of cut varieties are distinguished by a powerful ear, beautiful lush inflorescences, and a variety of colors. They are attractive not only for their appearance, but also for their very original names - colorful, capturing the very essence.
Variety reviews
Irina, Kirov region
I plant many varieties, while I notice that often proven gladioli are better than new ones. I like the yellow flowers very much, I love the Golden Antelope variety. But for the second year now I have a problem - two varieties have crooked peduncles, and Antelope also. I sin on the heat and insufficient watering, but of course, I'll take a look. Maybe his bushes were shaded, maybe it's genetics.
Olesya, Istra
I take different varieties for cutting, I really like the Silver Stream. Not a sort - some kind of witchcraft, how beautiful! It costs a long time, the whole bloom. I was very afraid that last year he got me infected, but no, everything turned out to be fine.
I also have a lot of white smoothies in my collection, but smoky ones are still my weakness. I will decrease the collection, I have no strength to cope with all the bulbs in the fall

Powerful arrows, literally strewn with large flowers that look like tropical butterflies. These are gladioli, varieties and photos with the names of which can be studied for a long time and carefully. But staying with a few plants for your own garden will still be very difficult! Anyone who has once grown such splendor on the site has already "got sick" with an amazing flower forever and will certainly find a case to replenish the living collection.
Gladiolus came to Russian gardens from Europe, where plants of this genus have been grown since the 16th century. Two hundred years ago, active breeding work began, giving the world modern hybrid varieties known as garden gladiolus.
The perennial plants familiar to many, propagating and renewing with the help of dense rounded-oval corms, bear little resemblance to their African and European ancestors. Over the course of several centuries, garden gladioli have acquired an incredible number of colors, their flowers have become much larger, the arrows are higher, and the flowering is longer.
One glance at the photo of gladiolus flowers is enough to recognize him as the real "king" of the flower bed. The selection started in the 19th century in the last century was not only continued, but thanks to genetics, it received a new, powerful impetus. Therefore, in the middle of the century, a rather successful attempt was made to classify the available varieties, each of which today, in addition to the author's name, is assigned a complex alphanumeric code.
