For good germination, seeds are planted in early May, after spring frosts. Before planting, you need to process the seeds:

  1. Soak in hot water for 20 minutes
  2. Abrupt immersion in cold water for 5 minutes
  3. Processing in a weak solution of potassium permanganate, to prevent the occurrence of various diseases
  4. Rinsing and drying

Disinfected and treated seeds are planted deep up to 3 cm, spill and mulch in order to prevent the appearance of an earthen clod and dry out the soil.

Before the emergence of seedlings, the soil should not be allowed to dry out. Watering is carried out by sprinkling so that the water does not knock the seeds out of the ground. After the appearance of 3 true leaves, the culture is thinned out. The second thinning is carried out after the appearance of 6 true leaves.

Cabbage thinning scheme: 50x40

After thinning, cabbage must be fertilized with nitrogenous fertilizers, weeded and loosened the soil.

When 3 sheets appear, the seedlings must be fertilized with complex fertilizers and transplanted into separate pots.

A pick is made only after a thorough shedding of the plant. Seedlings are carefully removed with a clod of earth and cut the main root by 1/3.

Variety care after planting

Caring for the Megaton variety is not difficult, it consists only in timely watering, fertilizing and hilling.

After planting seedlings, watering is carried out every 2-3 days, 10 liters of water per plant. From 3 weeks, watering is reduced to 1 time per week. Water consumption per plant is 12 liters. During the formation of the head of cabbage, watering is reduced, and 14 days before harvesting, it is completely stopped to protect the head from cracking.

Hilling

The first hilling is carried out in 21 days after planting seedlings. Subsequent hilling - every 10 days.

Hilling a plant is necessary for the formation of additional roots, which has a positive effect on the quality of the crop.

Top dressing

During the cultivation of cabbage, fertilizers are applied three times per season.

  • First feeding: two weeks after transplanting.
  • Second: 14 days after the first feeding. To do this, use cow dung diluted with water in a ratio of 1:10.
  • Third: during the formation of a head of cabbage. Add 10 grams of urea and potassium sulfate to a bucket of water.

Harvesting and storage

The picking time is influenced by the planting method. When sown in a seedless way, the collection is made on day 160... When planting in seedlings - on day 100.

Although the Megaton variety is resistant to a sharp drop in temperature, this negatively affects the duration of storage. Depending on the region, Megaton cabbage is harvested in the fall.

Harvesting must be carried out in dry and cool weather, when the air temperature does not exceed + 6 degrees, since a head of cabbage cut in warm weather can be subject to rot and rapid withering.

For storage, undamaged vegetables are selected, without signs of rot. The heads of cabbage are stored in a stump up on straw, in a dry room with a temperature from 0 to -4 degrees.

The Megaton variety has one drawback - it is short fresh storage time, and in order for the cabbage to delight with its taste all winter, it must be salted.
