Washing a waterproof mattress topper in an automatic machine
With regard to how to wash a waterproof mattress topper in a washing machine, you should give preference to a gentle type of washing at a temperature of no more than 40 degrees. At the same time, powders should not contain impurities of aldehyde and chlorine, which can damage the fabric. It is better not to put other things in a drum with a mattress topper, because buttons, zippers and other elements can tear fragile fabric, and mattress toppers for children can "attract" various infections that the child's body cannot yet resist.
Drying should be carried out away from ultraviolet rays and heating devices, which can harm fragile fabrics and lead to color fading.
A well-chosen product will be able to serve the owner for many years, even in the case of frequent washings. Moisture-resistant covers retain their operational properties even after hundreds of washes, so you should purchase the highest quality product.
Temperature regime
The optimum temperature for washing a waterproof cover is 30-35 degrees. In this case, you should refrain from squeezing water with your own hands, and even more so from using machine drying. It is better to hang the cover so that the water flows down on its own and walk over it with your hands, squeezing not too hard. During the washing process, do not use conventional powders, softeners and rinses.
Methods and features of washing the mattress topper
Currently, several methods are known that will help the hostess wash the mattress topper at home. Let's get to know each one more closely.
In the washing machine
Before washing the mattress topper in the washing machine, you need to remember the main rules for carrying out a hygiene procedure:
- You can wash the product in a typewriter only by setting the delicate mode.
- The water temperature should be in the range of thirty to forty degrees.
- The spin will need to be turned off.
- Only liquid detergents may be placed in the detergent container.
Manually
In a situation where it is allowed to wash the mattress topper only with your hands, this should be done taking into account the following nuances:
- The washing temperature should be slightly lower - up to thirty degrees.
- If the garment is made of delicate fabrics, you should choose a specialized detergent.
- If you need to remove stains from a children's mattress topper, it is best to use laundry soap.
Dry cleaning
If the mattress cover is free of complex stubborn dirt, it is not necessary to wash it at all to clean it. You can put the mattress topper in order using the following life hack:
- Mix a pack of baking soda and ten milliliters of any essential oil in a deep container.
- Pour the resulting mass into a sieve and distribute it evenly over the surface to be cleaned.
- After three to four hours, go over the mattress with a vacuum cleaner.
Thanks to the considered method, it will be possible not only to refresh the mattress topper, but also to get rid of unwanted aromas the first time.
How to wash a waterproof mattress topper
The canvas, covered from the inside with a special waterproof layer with micropores, is also called a membrane. It is hygroscopic, breathable and impervious to water and dirt. Sleeping on it is comfortable and pleasant: the body breathes, and excess sweat is absorbed in summer and does not bother a person.
However, these mattress covers also have a weak side: the layer cannot be damaged, and the pores become clogged over time, so a technological accessory needs preventive washing even more often than a regular fabric one.
How to machine wash without damaging the membrane:
- Since the volume of the accessory allows it, it should be launched separately from other things.
- Powders, especially with blue fractions, are strictly prohibited, as are conditioners, stain removers and bleaches (separately or as part of a detergent).
- It is absolutely not suitable for dry cleaning of the membrane due to aggressive cleaning compounds.
- Gentle liquids and capsules are the best solution. They rinse out quietly without damaging the moisture-repellent layer or clogging the pores.
- If stains are found on the mattress topper, it is better to wash them immediately. If they managed to be absorbed and dry, you need to treat the pollution with colorless toilet soap, let it lie down for a while, and then send it to a regular wash.
- Which mode? Choose the option "Delicate", "Synthetics", "Manual". The water temperature is cool, 30 degrees, the number of revolutions is maximum 400, preferably without spinning. Additional rinsing will not be superfluous.
- Even a children's mattress topper should be washed only on a gentle program, otherwise it will simply stop performing its functions. For elimination of odors and disinfection, double rinsing and ironed at the maximum bed sheets made of poplin, satin or coarse calico of medium and high density (130-160 g / m2) are responsible.
- Machine drying is prohibited, as is drying in the sun, on hot heating appliances and with a hair dryer.
- It is recommended to straighten the mattress topper by throwing it over two or three ropes, with the fabric side inward.
- Most likely, water will drain from the membrane - therefore it is worth spreading an absorbent cloth or substituting 1-2 basins under the accessory.
- Under its own weight, the mattress topper will straighten without jams.
- Ironing the bed accessory is strongly discouraged. As a last resort - walk along the fabric side with an iron at minimum heat and strictly without steaming.
Fight tough spots
Is it possible to wash the mattress topper and how to do it, we found out. Now let's try to figure out how to deal with particularly difficult dirt spots. This will help you clean problem areas manually without washing the entire garment.
As a rule, stains from cosmetics, blood or urine are most often found on the mattress topper, but other contamination is not excluded. Let's see what are the best ways to remove them from the surface of the product:
- urine is excreted with a mixture of lemon juice and salt. To do this, add one spoonful of salt to the juice squeezed from lemon. The composition is mixed and applied to the stain. After two to three hours, it is removed with a damp sponge. Such stains can be cleaned well with laundry soap or dry powder for baby clothes. Fresh stains are removed under cold water by the usual washing of the contaminated area;
- blood is best removed with hydrogen peroxide. Liquid is poured onto the stain, after which it is washed with a wet cloth. If the need arises, a similar procedure is carried out several times;
- lipstick stains are erased with cotton pads soaked in ammonia;
- red wine is removed with a mixture of soda and salt, which is applied to the stain for thirty minutes and then washed off with a damp sponge;
- the grease stain is removed with salt, talcum or starch. Each product is applied to the stain for no more than thirty minutes;
- you can remove tea or coffee stains and sap stains with vinegar.
If stains of unknown origin are found on the surface of your mattress topper, you can get rid of them with regular aspirin. Several tablets must be ground to a powdery state, add a small amount of water to form a liquid gruel. The mixture is applied to the stain, after which you should wait for it to dry completely. The aspirin powder is removed with a dry brush, the area is wiped with a damp cloth.
Dried stains are removed with borax, which can neutralize unpleasant odors at the same time.Its composition is abundantly sprinkled over the entire area on which the dirty spot is located, after which the powder is strongly rubbed into the fabric (it is recommended to use protective gloves for hands during such work). Now you need to wait until the borax dries up, for which the mattress topper is placed in the sun or in a dry, well-ventilated room. A great solution is to use a fan to dry. At the end of the stain removal procedure, the remains of the borax are removed with a vacuum cleaner.
If it is necessary to remove stains from the children's mattress topper and then wash it, it is recommended to use detergents intended for children's clothes.
How to wash a mattress topper in a washing machine?
Before starting the washing process, it is necessary to consider what kind of material the product is made from.
Camel and sheep wool mattress covers are especially popular. They are great for winter use, as are the fleece and microfiber mattress toppers. These materials help keep warm and get rid of excess moisture. But woolen mattress covers are very capricious, so it is advisable to use dry cleaning when caring for such a product or send it to dry cleaning. But if the dirt is rather strong, then it is allowed to wash the product by hand at a temperature of no more than 30 ° C, or in a typewriter, choosing the mode "wool" or "delicate wash". Dry in a horizontal position.
For proper care of a camel hair cover, the following rules should be observed:
- air it at least twice a year;
- wash by hand at a water temperature of 30 ° C with a special agent that contains lanolin;
- machine wash is allowed only with a special mode;
- dry only horizontally on a flat surface.
As for a sheep wool product, if the contamination is not strong, it is enough just to use a special detergent for wool, diluting it in water at a temperature of 30 ° C, foaming it and removing the contamination with a soft sponge. If the stain is large and strongly eaten, the product can be washed by hand again in water at 30 ° C, or in a washing machine in a special mode ("for wool"). After washing, such a mattress topper must not be strongly wrung out, twisted and ironed;
For summer, silk, bamboo and cotton mattress covers are more optimal. They are breathable, keep the feeling of coolness, while protecting from overheating, do not let moisture through. Cotton mattress covers are also hypoallergenic.
Polyurethane products can be washed at high temperatures. Cotton and synthetic - in the daily wash mode (if the wrong mode, they can change shape). They are not afraid of frequent washings. And if the cotton cover is also without filler, you can iron it. Products with a filler require more careful maintenance, so it can be felled and collected in lumps.
A mattress topper made of membrane fabric is considered waterproof and protects the mattress from the penetration of not only liquids and odors, but also from the penetration of ticks and pathogens. But the membrane fabric needs to be washed regularly. Otherwise, dirt entering the "pores" clogs them. Sweat also aggressively affects the material, spoils the texture and leads to the loss of membrane properties. Washing a mattress topper made of this material is especially important, since it is often used by bedridden patients and small children. For washing membrane covers fabrics should only be used with a special liquid. If this rule is not followed, the membrane will lose its original properties. It is also forbidden to use products containing chlorine and its derivatives when washing membrane products, dry them on a battery and give them to dry cleaning.
Latex, polyurethane foam, coconut products and mattress toppers with a memory effect are not allowed to be washed. Due to the effect of water, all their properties disappear in them.You can wash only their covers, preferably by hand at temperatures no higher than 30 ° C. If the recommendations are not followed, the material may shrink.
Mattress covers are made of microfiber, which is one of the most durable fabrics. When washing such a mattress topper, it is allowed to use ordinary detergent and wash at temperatures up to 60 ° C.
There are many companies that produce mattress toppers. One of them is the Ascona firm. How to wash the Ascona mattress topper? The products of this company contain knitwear, and since this material tends to stretch, such mattress toppers need to be treated with care:
- They should be washed gently using mild detergents;
- The water temperature should be no more than 40 ° С;
- Dry the Ascona mattress toppers in a horizontal position.
In any case, you should read the label before washing the Ascona mattress topper.
Ascona produces Protect a bed covers, which are waterproof and durable (withstand 200 wash cycles). How to wash Ascona covers? They can be washed at water temperatures up to 50 ° C and dried at medium temperature.
Removable mattress covers: washing features
Washing removable mattress covers is not special
complexity, even those made of quilted, fairly heavy fabric.
Modern washing machines wash them just as easily as
silk blouse.
Before loading the mattress topper into the machine, you need to
read the information on the maximum temperature label and
ability to stain. If he was wearing a mattress, then when washing you need to use a special baby
powder.
Polyurethane models can be washed at maximum
temperature, but synthetic or cotton - in the daily wash mode.
If it is chosen incorrectly, then the shape of the mattress topper may change, and the mattress toppers with an elastic band are then impossible.
will put on the mattress.
If the filler has fallen off during washing, then it is necessary
spread gently as it dries.
Removing difficult stains
Of course, if the stain is small and the rest of the cover is clean, you need to know how to remove such dirt by hand.
- Urine stains are usually removed the first time with cold water and household soap. In extreme cases, you can prepare a solution of lemon and salt, leave for three hours and rinse. And no trace remains!
- Blood. Blood is more difficult. A fresh stain will be removed almost instantly with a stream of running cold water. But if the pollution is old, you will have to apply a lot of stain removers.
- Coffee and tea stains can be easily removed with vinegar. True, it will smell unpleasant for some time, but it will quickly fade away.
Don't let serious stains dig into the fabric. Otherwise, it will be much more difficult and costly to withdraw them.
We take into account the features of the material
As you probably already understood, there are three types of mattress toppers: synthetic, semi-synthetic and purely natural. Of course, the basic washing parameters depend on the material.
- Covers made from cotton and other natural fabrics should be washed in cold water, as hot water can shrink. The optimum temperature is 30-40 degrees.
- Mattress toppers with the addition of bamboo need the most gentle wash. Of course, no spinning or drying! Even when squeezing such a mattress by hand, try not to exert too much effort and twist the product.
- The most unpretentious material is microfiber. It survives temperatures up to 60 degrees and easily tolerates common powders and even bleaches.
How to care for the product
The rules of care and washing depend primarily on what material the product is made of, and what kind of filler is inside. Some varieties may lose their properties in contact with water.
To find out for sure whether the mattress topper can be washed in the washing machine, and whether it can be washed even by hand, you need to carefully study its label when buying. If the information is ignored, the wrong way of cleaning and care can ruin it. The label usually contains the following information:
- recommended washing mode;
- ironing temperature;
- whether it has the property of being colored.
The temperature of the water for washing and its frequency depends on the material used. If the shortcut is missing or has been lost, you can search for recommendations on the Internet. By the way, if we are talking about branded products from the IKEA store, then its official website contains instructions on how to properly care for the mattress topper: can it be washed, dried, if necessary, bleached or dry-cleaned.
Care, depending on the material of the outer cover, looks like this:
- Cotton. The material can shrink, it can be washed at 40 degrees in a washing machine or by hand, it can be ironed or bleached.
- Bamboo fiber. Washing at temperatures up to 40 degrees, the product must not be machine dried, bleached or ironed.
- Microfiber. Normal washing is possible at a temperature not higher than 60 degrees, the product can be boiled at 95 degrees.
Popular firms
The two most popular companies are Ascona and Ormatek. They specialize in one product. Ascona mattress toppers are made of cotton fabric. Simple technology and proper care enable the cover to last as long as possible in an attractive form. You can wash Ascona's goods in a moderate mode with a water temperature of no more than 40 degrees.
The Ormatek company often uses the material "Jacquard - satin". Its washing rules are slightly different from those attributed by Ascona:
- The product should only occupy half of the drum.
- The use of aggressive substances is prohibited.
- Turn on delicate mode.
- The water temperature should not be higher than 30 ° C.
- You can iron the mattress topper from any side.
The purchased cover needs to be cleaned or ventilated. Washing should not be frequent, once every six months is enough. It can only be dried flat and outdoors, but try to avoid direct sunlight.
A waterproof mattress cover, like any other type of mattress cover, tends to get dirty. Many people ask themselves questions: how, with what and can this type of mattress topper be washed at all? And if so, how to do it as carefully as possible so as not to damage the waterproof membrane, which makes the mattress topper waterproof? Below are the main features of washing a mattress cover.
Of course, like all things, mattress cover
wears out over time. To extend its service life, it is necessary not only to treat things carefully during use, but also to clean them correctly. It is quite logical that the less often the product gets dirty, the less often it will have to be washed, the longer it will last. To achieve the maximum interval between washings, you must adhere to several rules:
Do not sleep directly on the mattress topper: it is better to make the bed with a sheet and wash it than to wash the last one - it is more convenient and economical.
Try not to take liquid drinks to bed, which can stain the mattress topper. In this case, regardless of whether there is a sheet or not, the mattress topper is waterproof
gets dirty. Plus, pronounced stains are much more difficult to remove than conventional dust and moisture stains. Due to this, a more severe washing mode and a waterproof mattress cover are selected.
wears out faster.
Do not allow children to paint or play with anything liquid on an unmade bed
It should be assumed that the logic of this rule does not need to be explained.
Before you buy a waterproof mattress topper
, you should pay attention to whether it can be washed in a washing machine. Because if not, then you will have to regularly take it to dry cleaning, and this is an additional expense
Most modern firms make such goods from materials that can easily be washed in a machine. Often this is a terry cloth on one side and a waterproof membrane on the other. But there are also companies that use less perfect materials, which makes it incongruous to wash such covers in a typewriter.
As for directly how to wash a waterproof mattress topper
, it is recommended to select the delicate mode and wash the product at a temperature not exceeding 40 degrees. For washing, you can use washing powder or detergents that do not contain chlorine and aldehydes. It is undesirable to wash other things with the cover at the same time, especially those that have zippers, buttons or hooks - this will damage the material of the cover. (The children's mattress topper is also not recommended to be washed with other things, as this is not hygienic, and the child can get an infection from which it is not yet protected). It is recommended to dry the mattress cover away from heating appliances and direct sunlight - this can damage both the material itself and its color.
If we talk about the durability of mattress covers, then we should proceed from the rule that the higher-quality material is used in production, the more, with regular washing (once a month) and correct operation, such a mattress topper can last for many years. This figure is based on the fact that the waterproof cover does not lose its properties up to a hundred washes.
The main thing to remember is that a mattress topper is, first of all, protection. And, although it is possible to buy a mattress quite inexpensively, it is much easier to wash an already purchased cover. This is the main benefit and why waterproof mattress covers are so popular.
Filler wool
Woolen mattress covers are one of the most popular. Such products are especially appreciated in winter. Wool warms well and the mattress does not get dirty.
Natural wool of the highest quality, has a beneficial effect on the body. Such covers are capable of absorbing up to 30% moisture by their own weight.
Lanolin, which is part of the filler, has a beneficial effect on the nervous system, normalizes sleep and improves joint mobility.
How to wash:
- At home, it is better to wash such a product by hand. The washing machine should be used very rarely.
- The water temperature is 30 degrees.
- Detergents - containing lanolin.
- Spin. In the washing machine, turn off this mode, and twist it with your hands carefully so that the thing does not deform.
- Drying of the cover is carried out in a horizontal position. It is not worth hanging it vertically, the filler will get lost on one side, and it is difficult to straighten it.
- It is impossible to iron the mattress topper with wool filler. In extreme cases, it is recommended to use a steamer, which is also highly undesirable.
Water-repellent mattress toppers with sheep's wool inside can withstand up to 200 washes, it can be used for about 6 years.
If dirt appears that can be removed without washing, use home remedies or special stain removers. Bleaches containing chlorine and other alkalis cannot be used.
Which mattress topper is better?
The mattress topper is considered an important accessory that
it is recommended to purchase in addition to even mattresses. With their help it is possible
protect the base fabric from liquids, abrasion and dust.
Which one to choose - cotton, synthetic, wool
or waterproof, as they say, "the master's business." You only need
familiarize yourself with their characteristics in advance.
Cotton is more familiar and has a natural
ecological hypoallergenicity. Synthetic ones withstand regular
washing.Woolen - soft and warm. Even if the mattress is hard, the mattress topper
wool will give it a softness that will make resting on the bed comfortable and
pleasant to the body.
Waterproof
Such a mattress topper protects the mattress even from the penetration of liquids, odors, the penetration of pathogens, ticks. These models use a moisture resistant membrane.
Membrane fabric needs regular washing, otherwise the dirt that gets into the "pores" clogs them - almost the same thing happens as with human skin. Sweat aggressively affects the material, destroys the texture, and leads to the loss of the properties of the membrane. Often, waterproof models are placed in the bed of patients and children, so the issue of washing is acute.
Here are the main “taboos” for the membrane:
- powder and other crystalline SMS that clog the pores of the tissue;
- boiling and temperatures above 40 ° C;
- products with chlorine and its derivatives;
- spinning;
- drying on a battery;
- ironing;
- rinses, fabric conditioners, stain removers;
- dry cleaning.
The optimal mode of washing is manual or delicate in the machine at 30-40 ° C. Liquid detergents are used. If a stain appears, then it is washed off with soap, since shampoos do not always cope with heavy dirt.
Squeeze the mattress topper by hand, do not twist it. High temperatures are prohibited, therefore the product is dried in the fresh air, but protected from direct sunlight. The surface is periodically treated with impregnations that envelop the fibers and restore water resistance.
How to wash mattress covers made of different materials
Natural, mixed and synthetic fabrics are used as materials for the manufacture of mattress toppers. Each material has its own characteristics that affect the choice of the washing mode. A few general guidelines on how to wash mattress covers made of different fabrics.
- Cotton mattress covers can be hand washed and machine washable. To prevent the product from shrinking, the temperature regime should not exceed 40 ° C.
- Bamboo is quite demanding to care for and does not withstand standard washing. In the case of him, choose a delicate mode without spinning and drying.
- Microfiber is the most durable material. The standard washing cycle at 60 ° C using conventional detergents and conditioners is suitable for her.
Before you start looking for an answer to the question of how to wash a mattress topper at home, you need to determine what fibers your product is made of (if the original instructions are lost).
Wool
The peculiarity of this mattress topper is the presence of natural wool (printed or as a filler) - sheep or camel wool in the product. One of the annoying problems with woolen products is that they absorb odors. If there is a need to get rid of fresh dirt, you can use a special lanolin cleaner for wool. The temperature of the water used to remove contamination (or in which the product will be washed) should not exceed 30 ° C.
Feather and down
Natural material, quite demanding in care
First (as usual) you should pay attention to the recommendations for leaving the manufacturer - on the tag. It should indicate whether it is possible and how to wash the mattress topper with down filling.
If the "permission" for washing from the manufacturer is received, then we wash, but taking into account a number of nuances. Washing is recommended at least once a year, usually at the end of summer. The washing mode for the machine is an automatic machine - delicate or manual, without spinning. Use only delicate detergents (mostly liquid) and do not put other things together with the mattress topper (only tennis balls so that the fluff does not come off). Drying - flattened, away from heat sources.
Coconut, PU foam and latex
Thick mattress toppers (toppers) made of coconut coir, latex and polyurethane foam (foam rubber) must not be washed.This procedure will lead to loss of filler characteristics and the topper will become unusable. The cover of the topper mattress is both possible and necessary to wash.
Holofiber
Mattress topper with artificial filling that can be washed in a washing machine on a delicate cycle. It is better to use gentle (gel-like) detergents as detergents. So that the product does not deform after washing, it is better to dry it in a straightened, horizontal position.
Another rather demanding material. You can wash the mattress topper in the washing machine - with delicate means and without using an air conditioner. In this case, the water temperature should not exceed 30 ° С. Machine spinning is not recommended. Iron only from the inside out, choosing a low temperature.
Antibacterial
Since manufacturers use different types of impregnations, the washing rules for a particular model will be displayed in the icons on the tag. In order for the product to serve as long as possible without loss of valuable qualities, the manufacturer's recommendations should be strictly adhered to.
Cleaning of orthopedic mattresses
Ventilate and turn the orthopedic mattress regularly (change the sides of the product, alternate the position of the legs and head). It is recommended to turn over once a month, especially during the first 6 months of use. Place the mattress in a standing position from time to time to stabilize the filling. High-quality products do not require turning, on the contrary, this action can damage it. A different situation occurs in the case of mattresses, where each side has different orthopedic or thermal properties.
When cleaning, you can use:
- vacuum cleaner;
- special cleaner;
- a solution of water and soap with a neutral pH;
- hydrogen peroxide;
- enzymatic cleaner;
- Fresh air.
Not recommended for cleaning:
- caustic substances;
- adhesive emulsions;
- a large amount of water;
- liquid cleaning agents.
Do not place heavier, sharp objects on the bed for a long time. They can scratch or even puncture the mattress. Also be careful when folding the product, for example when changing bed linen. Such manipulations can irreversibly spoil it. Protect the product from prolonged exposure to high temperatures, such as a radiator.
How to wash a waterproof mattress topper
Washing a rubberized mattress topper is quite simple. This can be done both in the car and in manual mode according to the following rules:
- water is used with a maximum temperature of 40 ° C;
- the product is used only liquid and without aggressive substances in the composition, it is impossible to use chlorine-containing gels, bleaches and conditioners;
- washing is carried out without spinning, if the cover is washed in a machine, then automatic drying cannot be used either.
Waterproof mattress covers get dirty on the top and inside, so be sure to wash them
If the waterproof cover is heavily soiled, then you need to remove yellow stains from the mattress topper before machine washing. To do this, it is soaked in a deep basin or in a bath and the stains are treated with laundry soap.
Ways of washing the mattress topper
Washing can be done either by machine or by hand. Which method to choose depends on the requirements of the particular product, but the processing rules in both cases will be very similar.
How to wash a mattress topper in a washing machine
It is allowed to process in an automatic machine products made of durable and dense fabrics, for example, cotton or microfiber.
The algorithm looks like this:
- the machine is set in a delicate mode with a water temperature of 30 to 40 ° C;
- spinning is turned off completely, aggressive mechanical impact will only damage things;
- liquid gel, soap or shampoo is poured into the powder tray, it is prohibited to use the powder;
- the cover is carefully placed in the drum of the machine and the wash is started.
When washing a mattress cover with elastic bands, you must turn off the spin
The product can only be washed alone, no laundry is put into the automatic machine. If the drum is filled to the limit, the thing simply will not be able to rinse, besides, the load on household appliances will increase.
Advice! First, make sure that more than 5 kg of laundry can be put into the machine. Small units with low power are not suitable for processing bulky items.
How to wash a mattress topper by hand
If you have to wash a woolen or downy cover, then preference should be given to manual processing. In the machine, sensitive products can be damaged and lose performance.
In this case, hand washing is carried out in almost the same way as machine washing. Namely:
- warm water not hotter than 30 ° C is collected in a large container;
- add a detergent with a mild composition; delicate products are best washed with liquid soap, shampoo or gel for woolen clothes;
- immerse the cover in water and leave to soak for 20 minutes.
It is inconvenient to wash a bulky mattress topper in a basin - it is usually placed in a bathtub half full
After soaking, the product is gently washed with gentle whipping movements. You do not need to rub and squeeze it, especially since it is quite difficult to do this. After a few minutes, you can start rinsing, you need to rinse it at least 3 times in a row in order to completely remove soap or shampoo residues from the fabric fibers.
The washed product is not twisted or wrung out. It should be placed on the grate above the bathtub and allowed to drain off.
Elimination of unpleasant odors
Sprinkle baking soda over the surface of your mattress to remove unpleasant odors. Leave it on all day. Remove the baking soda thoroughly in the evening. Repeat the next day if necessary.
To combat sweat odor, prepare a dry cleaner: Mix 1 tbsp. soda and 5 drops of essential oil. Use a scent you like (eg lavender, chamomile, cedar are good for a restful night's sleep).
Soda
When a person sweats in bed, the sweat gets on the mattress, which as a result takes on a specific odor.
To get rid of it, follow these steps:
- Sprinkle baking soda over the surface of the mattress.
- Clean brushes with soft, preferably natural bristles.
- Leave it on for 10 minutes.
Vinegar
Odor and sweat stains are the most common problems with mattresses. You can make a cleaner with vinegar and warm water. In addition to eliminating odors and impurities, this solution will revitalize colors.
Care depending on the material
The most important point is what the cover is made of. "Ascona" offers ultra-modern and ultra-soft breathable fabric, which is comfortable and hygienic, but does not tolerate contact with rough fabrics, strong friction, etc. These covers are best washed on the wool setting.
Microfiber, bamboo and cotton are more resistant, but they are all afraid of hot water: the first is deformed, the second becomes thinner, the third shrinks. However, they perfectly tolerate intensive washing on the Cotton or Cotton ECO program (temperature - 40 degrees), so it is permissible to run them two or even three at a time, if the volume of the drum allows.
Woolen mattress toppers require particularly careful maintenance. Dry cleaning is preferable for them (knocking out, vacuuming, brushing). Once every six months, more often the mattress topper still has to be washed. The water should be cool, 30-40 degrees, and the washing cycle should be short, it is strongly not recommended to soak such an accessory: the wool will shrink strongly.
The mattress topper saves expensive bedding from wear and tear, dust and other contaminants. It is necessary to wash it to keep the bed clean and prolong the life of the mattress and accessory. Fortunately, most mattress toppers or covers are easy to machine wash without compromising on quality.
