Engineering board advantages
Compared to laminate:
-
Naturalness, environmental friendliness. Does not contain formaldehyde resins, does not emit harmful substances into the room air.
-
Laminate with the formation of scratches and cracks must be replaced, and the engineered board, like parquet, can be scraped, eliminating the damage that has arisen over the years. Sanding and applying a new layer of varnish or oil will save the floor for a long time.
-
Not static.
-
Not so noisy in operation.
-
Lasts longer.
-
Looks more expensive because each plank is unique, realistic.
-
More stable to changes in humidity and temperature.
Compared to parquet and solid boards:
-
More budget option.
-
If, after a few years, the floor needs to be scraped, then a coating glued to the base is suitable for this. Parquet boards are usually installed in a floating way, so why pay extra for gluing. It is better to choose an engineering board, which is designed for adhesive installation by its construction.
-
In contrast to parquet, an engineered board can be laid without sills over a large area.
Engineering board Marco Ferutti (Marco Ferutti)
The Italian factory of Marco Ferutti was formed in 1996 and only in 2011 a branch was opened in Russia.
At the dawn of its formation, the main specialization of the company was the production of modular parquet, as well as French and Hungarian Christmas tree parquet. Manufacturing Marco engineering board Ferutti is a relatively new direction.
In the shortest possible time, buyers became interested in the products, and a few years later, Marco Ferutti's engineering coatings took one of the leading positions in the conditional quality rating.
The role of the base (bottom layer) is played by plywood, and the useful layer is valuable wood species with a cross section of at least 3 mm. For the manufacture of the top layer, oak or exotic species are usually used, in particular, merbau, Burmese teak, American walnut, sucupira, etc.
Pros of coverage:
- Increased moisture resistance, due to which Marco Ferutti's engineering board can be installed even in damp rooms;
- Wear resistance due to the use of protective compounds applied in several layers;
- Reliability and durability. The service life of the material is at least 25 years.
- Dimensional stability;
- Excellent resistance to temperature and humidity changes;
- A wide range of patterns, designs and decors;
- Compliance with European and Russian quality and safety standards;
- Practicality, thanks to which the material can be laid in any room and subjected to frequent wet cleaning;
- Simple build system.
- Disadvantages:
- High price;
- Limited choice of shades.
The difference between an engineering board and a parquet board
They differ in characteristics, the device of the floor cake, the method of laying.
- Engineering board - 1-5 mm made of valuable solid wood, with multiple protection - varnish, UF-coating, oil. There is one stripe in the top layer. The modules are joined using the tongue-and-groove tongue-and-groove method. There are also floorboards with a lock connection. Placed on glue or fastened with self-tapping screws. A combined method is allowed. Can be subjected to repeated grinding and restoration. It is least susceptible to indoor climate changes and retains its geometric shape and performance for a long time.
- Parquet board - Three-layer, top veneer is always made of valuable wood species from 0.4 to 3 mm. One, two or three stripes, according to the number of lamellas in the top layer. With a lock connection. The way of laying by two methods - glue and floating. Thin top layer prevents sanding. Reacts to the slightest changes in temperature, humidity.
Bolefloor engineering board
Perhaps the most unusual flooring is produced by Boleflor. It was this brand that was the first in the world to demonstrate a completely different vision of seemingly standardized forms of panels and presented boards with natural wood lines to customers.
That is, the longitudinal edges of the products are not straight, but an uneven, wavy line.
Each lamella is unique only to the extent that the cut of the tree and its pattern are unique. Finding two identical planks is almost impossible. The manufactured panels receive their own individual code, which makes it easy to restore it in the future with the same parameters, design and shade.
It is also noteworthy that the length can reach 3 m, and options up to 6 m are available on an individual order. The connection method is tongue-and-groove, the best way of laying is with glue. In addition, the plant produces material both with and without grooves, as well as combining them.
Bolefloor engineering board has almost the largest cross-section of the decorative layer of valuable rock - the thickness can reach 6 mm.
Advantages:
- Moisture resistance, not limiting the scope of application;
- Reliability and durability;
- Wear resistance to mechanical and shock influences;
- Long term of use - at least 20 years;
- Resistant to fluctuations in temperature and humidity;
- Possibility of laying on a "warm floor";
- The presence of panels with non-standard parameters;
- Form stability;
- Environmental friendliness and safety;
- Unusual appearance with the presence of small knots, sapwood, etc.
Disadvantages:
- Very high price, perhaps the highest among premium coatings;
- Some limited color gamut.
Laying engineering boards
For installation, use special adhesives for engineering and solid boards. It can be one-component and two-component formulations.
The floors must be installed on a leveled base - cement screed, wooden floor, plywood.
Self-leveling gypsum floors, floors using underlays, cable heating systems are not suitable for this purpose.
The base is prepared according to the requirements applicable to other floor coverings:
-
Lack of bumps and holes, drops of more than 2 mm by 2 m.
-
Residual moisture no more than 3%.
-
Be sure to clean the sub-floor of debris, dirt and dust.
Working with glue should be done in accordance with the instructions for it.
Engineered plank is a great option for a budget wood floor. Perfect for houses and apartments of people who choose safety and environmental friendliness. Coating designs are natural wood in different shades, with a brushed effect, under varnish of varying degrees of gloss and or under oil, giving the maximum naturalness.

Peculiarities
Use of engineering Greenline floor boards should be considered as a weighty alternative to parquet - and therefore the approach to its selection must be just as strict. Engineering grade boards differ from conventional parquet boards by the increased thickness of the upper layer. They are much better adapted for use in the Russian climate and prove to be more reliable products. The glued design of the material provides a relatively low level of deformation even in difficult conditions. It should be borne in mind that the type of installation depends on the specific manufacturer, and in this sense it is not entirely correct to compare Greenline products with those of other companies.
It is also worth considering that:
- engineering boards are easy to restore;
- multiple cycling is allowed;
- a thin board can be used under a warm floor;
- it will be possible to level non-uniform floors;
- there are many types of engineering boards (by color and geometry);
- a decent level of sound insulation is achieved;
- products are relatively expensive;
- it is difficult to maintain the same surface design;
- laying an engineered board is not easy (it is better to trust this procedure to specialists);
- there are a lot of fakes, and you will have to carefully select the material;
- even high-quality products are of little use for kitchens.
Engineering board Global Parquet (Global Parquet)
The rating of the engineering board is continued by Global Parquet, an official representative of the American-Malaysian group of companies Sumling-Global. In 2014, a branch was opened in Russia.
The company specializes in the production of engineering, parquet, large-format and anti-deformation boards. For the production of engineering panels, oak, American walnut, teak, ash, etc. are used.
In addition to standard two-layer samples, a so-called anti-deformation board is produced, consisting of three layers. Three layers of oak cut provide reliability and stability.
The useful layer thickness can be up to 5.5 mm. Therefore, the three-layer engineering board Global Parquet is more like an array, but at the same time it is much stronger. Oils or varnishes are used as protective impregnations.
In addition, the company uses a unique technology for applying Treffet varnish, which allows the material to be used for about 25 years without the need for additional maintenance.
Global Parquet is an engineering board with several advantages:
- Durability - the warranty period is 25 years, and the service life can be up to 70 years.
- Strength, several times higher than the strength of massive and parquet boards;
- Good resistance to changes in humidity, which makes it possible to install in damp rooms;
- Preservation of technical and aesthetic characteristics when flooded with water;
- Ease of assembly and disassembly due to classic locks;
- Possibility of installation both "floating" and by adhesive;
- Laying on the underfloor heating system is allowed;
- Availability of certificates;
- Variety of colors.
Cons of coverage:
- Impossibility of processing after installation;
- High cost.

As for the Power collection, it is performed according to a three-layer scheme. The unique single-strip design fully reveals the unsurpassed beauty of natural wood. The multi-layer construction guarantees stability in any situation. As in the previous cases, the UV varnish coating and the four-sided bevel have been skillfully used. Typical dimensions: 400-2100x (145, 165, 185) x16 (20) mm.
Both two-layer and three-layer constructions are found in the Lux collection. This selection is distinguished by the exclusivity of the decors. The surface has a matte sheen. The surface is very pleasant to touch. The colors are "Stockholm", "Kenya", "Andorra", "Havana", "Karelia" and other types.
What is an engineering board?
Parquet board, although cheaper than solid wood, still hits the wallet significantly, especially if you want a single-strip design. The cost is due to the complexity of production and expensive equipment.
So the manufacturers went further and released an engineering board. This flooring looks like solid wood externally, so for those who dream of wooden floors, this is just a godsend. After all, the price for an engineered floor is from 2690 rubles. per square meter.
The coating is laid on glue and has a multi-layer structure:
The base is high quality plywood sheets with a thickness of about 10 mm. The base is stable and durable. Plywood layers are glued together by hot pressing, which excludes delamination.
The valuable layer is made of expensive wood species (oak, ash, walnut, etc.). The thickness of the top layer is from 3 mm and usually up to 10 mm.
The use of plywood made it possible not only to significantly reduce the cost price, but also to make the coating sufficiently strong and durable, and even outstripping parquet in terms of stability. An engineered board is more resistant to changes in humidity and temperature. The top of the floor is a natural beautiful wood, with its warmth, special tactile sensations, natural knots and other features.
Important factors when choosing
How to choose the most suitable coating? Consider the following features:
Loads
- The most popular materials that can withstand the highest loads are ash and oak. These rocks are characterized by high values of hardness and strength.
- For rooms in which heavy furniture is installed, or with a large traffic, small-sized floorboards are suitable. With minimal loads in the room, large boards can be mounted.
Popular colors
A light or golden colored floor reflects well the light in the room, making it visually more spacious and comfortable.
A darker one will look more appropriate in a spacious room with high ceilings. Light walls look interesting in contrast to dark flooring.
