For the most part, Primorsky summer residents do not bother with the variety of potatoes they grow on their six hundred square meters. So it turns out that we bury a bucket of bulba in the spring, and in the fall we collect one and a half buckets. Experts say that 70 percent of the seed fund of private gardeners in the region consists of planting material of unknown origin, which does not provide even the average yield in the country.
Although the number of advanced summer residents is growing. People begin to think about the pointlessness of labor-intensive work if the harvest ends up being ridiculous. Yes, and I want to bring home root crops from my personal garden, which will be tasty and crumbly. Until recently, at the height of the country fashion was "adretta", which is really tasty and fruitful. However, now this variety, which experts do not pursue purposefully, has degenerated in Primorye. And in the markets of Vladivostok, and in the entire region, it is easy to buy a variety of assorted goods under the guise of a popular brand.
“Adretta seed production is not carried out on the farms of the region,” says the Primorye agronomist Gennady Kurkot. - Our scientists are betting on the varieties "early Zhukovsky", "Nevsky", "Sante", a new variety of the Primorsky Research Institute of Agriculture "Yantar". "Nevsky" just quite safely tolerates waterlogging, does not get sick. "Sante" is fruitful, plastic, has good keeping quality. Amber is excellent in taste.
Until recently, at the height of the country fashion was "adretta", which is really tasty and fruitful. However, now this variety, which specialists do not pursue purposefully, has degenerated in Primorye.
At the recent agricultural exhibition "Dalagro", which took place in Vladivostok, a real excitement reigned at the stand of the Primorsky Research Institute of Agriculture. The gardeners who arrived at the event were begging for at least a tuber right from the exposition. And there is no doubt that the new varieties of potatoes, which have already earned good fame among summer residents, did not go to the pot, but will be carefully stored until spring, and then they will go to special plots on six hundred square meters to become the founders of varietal potato growing in a separate dacha farm.
Specifically
So what kind of varieties are currently in trend among seaside vegetable growers?
"Dachny" Is a new potato variety that was developed at the Research Institute of Agriculture. Gives consistently high yields, belongs to the mid-season. Tubers grow up to 90 - 150 grams. By the degree of starchiness - medium. A great advantage of the variety is resistance to potato diseases: late blight, scab and other infection.
"Amber" brought out in the same research institute. Medium late variety. The tubers are oval-round, yellow with a smooth skin. The flesh of the tuber is also yellow. Differs in an enviable yield. Resistant to cancer, has field resistance to viral diseases, moderately susceptible to late blight.
"Nevsky" produces the Primorsk Vegetable Experimental Station in Surazhevka. Medium early potatoes, you can dig in 80 - 90 days after planting. High-yielding table variety with high marketability and excellent taste. The tubers are round-oval in shape, with red eyes and a blunt top. The peel is white, the flesh is white, not darkening when cut. The tubers are easy to clean and clean. They do not crumble during cooking. Not recommended for frying and mashed potatoes, better in soup and salads.
Planting of vegetables and potatoes began in Primorye
Farms of Artyom, Oktyabrsky, Partizansky, Ussuriysky districts have started planting vegetables and potatoes. In total, 117 hectares are already occupied for vegetables, and these are mainly carrots, beets and radishes, and for potatoes - 40 hectares. According to the Department of Agriculture and Food of the region, this year the farms will grow both traditional varieties of potatoes, which have already proven themselves well, and new ones.
Among the latter are "Yantar", "Zhukovsky Early", the harvesting of which the farms begin in July, as well as "Rosara" and "Zekura", which were brought to Primorye several years ago and were highly appreciated by specialists. The leading place is occupied by the variety "Nevsky" (starch content - 13 percent), under which 60 percent of the sown area is occupied in the region. Note that Primorye has favorable climatic conditions for growing potatoes.
Farms of the region are actively engaged in planting this crop and achieve significant success. To help this - specialized seminars, fairs and exhibitions, which have already become traditional. Here, farmers learn about modern technologies of growing, harvesting, storing potatoes, study new trends in vegetable growing, and get acquainted with the products.
One of such events - the regional forum, where potato growers will gather, will be held in September, in the Chuguevsky region on the basis of the agricultural enterprise Favorit LLC. Various seminars and conferences, an exhibition of potato varieties new to Primorye, a field trip to demonstrate the work of a new potato-harvesting complex, which the farm received last year on the terms of regional leasing, will await the participants and guests of the forum.
