How to grow bulbous flowers at home
Growing flower bulbs is very easy and fun, you can do this with your children. Traditional tulip and daffodil bulbs cost pennies and can be purchased in garden stores all year round.
Materials:
- Bulbs of tulips, daffodils, hyacinths, gladioli, amaryllis.
- Any decorative containers: vases, cups, bowls, jugs, salad bowls and even crystal from Soviet times.
- Decorative stones, glass, pebbles, colored sand, plastic beads, buttons, decorative "seaweed", moss.

Instructions:
- Soak the bulbs upside down in warm water with epin (if there is any growth regulator, it will help the flowers wake up, but this is not necessary). Enough 2 hours.
- Spread a layer of pebbles over the bottom of the container.
- Place the bulbs upside down and reinforce them with another layer of decor.
- The tails of the bulbs should be free of pebbles.
- Pour water into the container so that it barely touches the place of future roots. Do not pour the entire bulb at once, as it may start to rot before germinating.
- Place the container away from a light-colored windowsill.
- When the white roots stretch downward, more water can be added.
- Keep an eye on the liquid level in the vase - bulbous flowers grow quickly and drink a lot.
- Green leaves should appear within a few days. The vase can now be moved towards light and warmth.
- How to prevent the stem from falling off? Add alcohol to the water
20% al. = 3 parts water to 1 part alcohol
25% al. = 4 1
30% al. = 5 1
35% al. = 6 1
40% al. = 7 1 - If the water stagnates, the container can be placed under running water in the tub and rinsed.
Bulbs of dwarf daffodils, and not only, can be planted on sand or small pebbles in an eggshell. The decoration of such a "pot" will be moss or ornamental grass, even yarn twisted in a creative mess, imitating a nest. Such lovely spring compositions can be presented for Easter.
It's a shame that the bulbs bloom mostly once, but growing tulips and daffodils in a vase as a long-lasting living bouquet will be a pleasant experience.
Tulips are my favorite flowers, show me tulips any day and you will immediately see a smile on my face! And naturally, I would like to see these flowers at home all year round. And in fact it is possible, I want to share a way to make tulip bulbs bloom all year round in a vase of water.
Choose large bulbs and chill
In the fall, you need to choose large and healthy tulip bulbs (it doesn't matter where you get the tulip bulbs, whether it's your garden or a flower shop). The larger the bulb, the more abundant the tulip will bloom, and if you choose small ones, you will be slightly upset with the result.
An important factor for the flowering of a tulip is the rest time; the tulip bulb needs a certain amount of time to be in the cold. Most tulip cultivars need approximately 12 to 15 weeks, each cultivar can vary in time both one way and the other. Tulip bulbs purchased or dug up in the fall should be placed in the refrigerator for at least 3 months, if possible, isolate the bulbs from food so that they do not get mold or rot. Keep them away from apples, though. Emitted from fruits, like apples, gas will prevent them from blooming. So a garage refrigerator is a great option. If you take the bulbs out of the refrigerator ahead of time, you will not be able to achieve flowering tulips, they will simply release the leaves and that's it.
Arrangement of a vase for the growth of tulips
After your tulip bulbs have settled in a cold place for the minimum amount of time, it's time to take them out of the refrigerator and plant them in a vase. I usually use a clear tall vase. At the bottom of the vase, you need to spread large pebbles, since I have a transparent vessel, I will use transparent glass balls, you need not a lot of them - the layer should be 3-4 centimeters. Then place the tulip bulbs on top of the balls, pointed side up, and sprinkle with a handful of pebbles around the bulbs.
Almost everything, it remains only to pour clean (without bleach) water into the vase. Water should be poured so that it covers only the lower part of the bulb, where the roots will grow, pour a lot of water - the bulbs will rot. And now it remains to choose a bright place in the apartment but without direct sunlight, I have such a place in the kitchen, on the table a meter from the window.
After a while, about 2 to 3 weeks, the bulbs will root out and grow between pebbles in the water. All this time, the water level must be maintained at approximately the same level, more water will rot, less water will dry out.
How to cheat a little when growing tulips at home
To grow a tulip at home and not wait for the bulbs to pass the dormant stage in the cold, you can cheat a little and save time. To do this, you need to buy potted bulbs from a grocery or flower shop, but you need to choose those bulbs that have not yet bloomed.
The purchased bulbs must be carefully removed from the pots, shaken off the soil and rinsed from the roots of the rest of the earth. Rinse with cold water. After rinsing, the roots must be trimmed with scissors to a length of 10-15 centimeters, and the bulbs must be planted in a vase.
Subject to the conditions of detention, after 1 - 2 weeks the bulbs should sprout and bloom sooner.
