How to grow garlic on a large scale in Bashkiria?

Garlic is one of the most popular vegetable crops in the world, which is why a business based on its cultivation should bring a good income. Besides, such plants are distinguished by unpretentiousness to care and good resistance to adverse weather conditions... These factors make it possible to grow spicy heads in all regions of the country. In this review, we will talk in detail about how to plant and when to harvest garlic, how much planting material is needed and what is the yield per hectare.

What is the yield of garlic?

Garlic is grown all over the world. This spicy vegetable is used as an addition to many dishes. It is consumed fresh, marinated, salted, stewed and prepared according to many other recipes. Before you start growing this crop, you should familiarize yourself with its characteristics. Gardeners divide garlic varieties into two main groups:

  1. Spring - planted in early spring. These varieties produce small, dense heads with spicy but not overly sharp teeth. The shelf life of such fruits can be up to 12 months;
  2. Winter - planted in mid-autumn. The resulting crop is large in size, smooth and beautiful teeth with a rich pungent taste. The main disadvantage of this type will be a short shelf life of 3-4 months.

Productivity is at a fairly high level. Depending on the variety and growing conditions, one hundred square meters can be harvested from 100 to 500 kilograms, respectively, from 10 to 50 tons from one hectare.

Can you grow garlic for sale?

Growing garlic for sale is quite a profitable activity, because the price of this vegetable on the market always remains high, and the simplicity of performing agrotechnical work allows even a novice gardener to carry out them. The main difficulty will be finding sales channels, because the number of offers for the sale of these vegetables is extremely large.

how to grow garlic on a large scale in BashkiriaThe cost of growing garlic is less than other vegetables

For cultivation, you do not need to build greenhouses and other structures, all work is carried out in the open ground. This factor significantly reduces the initial budget. However, it is worth remembering that the harvest of spicy heads can be obtained only once a year, so you should take care of the storage conditions of vegetables in advance.

A business based on the cultivation of garlic is especially beneficial for people who own a land plot. But even if this is not available, you should not be upset, the soil can always be rented, depending on the region, such a service will cost from 5 to 80 thousand rubles per hectare for one season.

Renting land in the Moscow region and the Moscow region can cost much more than in the surrounding areas, so it is worth considering the location of the site in advance.

A garlic business can generate good income for a minimal upfront cost. Many sources recommend starting cultivation in small areas and gradually increasing the area planted.

Advantages and Disadvantages of a Garlic Business

Growing garlic for the purpose of further sale is considered a profitable business idea because it is very often successful. Such a case has many advantages:

  1. Garlic is a very popular vegetable crop. which is always in demand, so there will always be sales channels, even if you have to try hard for this;
  2. The life of such a business can begin from an ordinary garden plot of 6 acres, it will be enough to get a stable and decent income;
  3. The garlic business doesn't require much start-up capital;
  4. Garlic is unpretentious culture, which can be grown on almost any soil;
  5. Compliance with simple rules for growing plants will help get a rich harvest;
  6. Received heads are stored long enough, therefore, if the distribution channels are properly organized and storage conditions are provided, profits can be made throughout the year.

But this business also has its drawbacks. Growing garlic in large areas will require the involvement of special equipment, the rental of which is quite expensive. We must not forget about natural factors, because a culture growing in open ground can die under the influence of an unfavorable climate.

Another disadvantage will be the inability to grow garlic on the same plot of land for more than 3 years in a row.

Where should you start a garlic business?

Garlic business start with the selection of a suitable land plot. Given that this crop grows well in the open field, building greenhouses will be unnecessary work that only brings additional costs.

how to grow garlic on a large scale in BashkiriaYou can start a garlic business from a small suburban area

In order to grow a rich harvest, it is enough to use a small summer cottage, several hundred square meters in size. At the first stage of business development, such an area will be sufficient. With the expansion of the site, both profit and processing complexity will increase, requiring additional costs, therefore you should first get regular customers who are ready to purchase products and only after that increase the sown area.

In the event that a novice businessman does not have a land plot in his ownership, he can be rented. Its price will depend on the region chosen, the quality of the soil, etc.

Planting and leaving

After the land plot is selected, you should take care of purchasing planting material. To grow garlic, use its cloves or one-cloves.obtained by cultivating garlic arrowheads. Experienced gardeners recommend paying attention to high-yield varieties that are regionalized for the growing region.

It is also worth deciding what kind of garlic will be grown for winter or spring. In the first case, the harvest will turn out to be larger and more beautiful, and in the second, it will be more maturing.

Necessary equipment and workers

When growing this crop on a small plot of land, it can be planted and harvested manually, while for processing 1 hectare of soil, you will need special equipment... This includes a tractor with mounted technologies, suitable for sowing or a walk-behind tractor.

Renting a tractor together with a worker will cost at least 50-70 thousand rubles, while paying for such a service will have to be annually. The most economical option would be to purchase your own walk-behind tractor.Its price will depend on the configuration, manufacturer, engine type and many other characteristics. This indicator varies in the range of 20-80 thousand rubles.

You will also have to purchase garden tools, which include shovels, watering cans, rakes, pitchforks, hoes, etc.

When cultivated in large areason an industrial scale, it will be very difficult to do without workers. It is best to hire them for seasonal work.

Planting in spring and autumn in open ground

The timing of planting garlic will depend on the type chosen:

  • winter varieties planted in autumn - at the end of September-mid-October, 3-4 weeks before the first frost;
  • spring -sown in open ground in April, when the ground warms up to 5-7 degrees.

When growing garlic, it is very important to choose the right place for planting:

  1. The plot must be open and sunny;
  2. It is not allowed to use lands on which melt water and precipitation accumulate... It is also worth making sure that the groundwater is at a deep level;
  3. It is not recommended to plant garlic where onions, carrots, cucumbers and tomatoes grew before it. Desired predecessors would be cabbage, legumes, pumpkin, zucchini, or greens.

how to grow garlic on a large scale in BashkiriaPlanting depth of garlic should be at least 5 cm

To obtain a good harvest, it should be borne in mind that garlic prefers neutral loams. Regardless of the timing of planting, in early September, the soil is dug up, cleaned of weeds and debris, after which the following fertilizers are applied:

  • 1 bucket of humus;
  • 50-60 grams of superphosphate;
  • 50-60 grams of ammonium nitrate.

Winter garlic is placed in furrows spaced 25-30 centimeters apart. The distance between the prongs will be 12-15 centimeters. The planting material is buried 15-20 centimeters, this is necessary so that the cloves do not freeze during the winter. Immediately after the planting work, they are mulched with a 7-centimeter layer of peat or sawdust. If the winters in the regions are frosty, but with little snow, it is recommended to additionally use spruce branches or agrofibre.

Regardless of the type chosen, the teeth should be deepened strictly vertically.

Spring garlic is placed much denser, the distance between furrows will be 15-20 centimeters, and between individual plants 7-10 centimeters. The teeth are buried 6-8 centimeters.

Planting care

To get a rich harvest that will be easy to sell in mono, you need to properly care for the plantings and adhere to several basic rules:

  1. Garlic beds are needed regularly to clear weeds and loosen;
  2. Watering is carried out moderate, during the growing season and the formation of bulbs, the soil must always be moist. Watering of plantings should be stopped 2-3 weeks before harvest;
  3. After each watering, it is recommended to mulch the soil;
  4. To form larger heads it is necessary pinch off the arrows, more than 15-20 centimeters long;
  5. Same plants need feeding. In the spring, after the first leaves appear, the garlic is fertilized with nitrogen fertilizers, such as urea. After 15-20 days, complex mineral fertilizers are applied. When 5-6 leaves appear on the garlic, it is fed with phosphorus-potassium fertilizers.

Growing garlic is quite easy, but at the same time a painstaking and laborious process. Adhering to all the rules for planting and caring for plants, a rich harvest will be guaranteed.

Harvesting

The collection of spicy heads of garlic is most often done by hand, for this they are dug up with a pitchfork or pulled out by the aerial part. The timing of the harvest will depend on the climate. Usually, both in Russia and in Ukraine, winter garlic is harvested in early August, and spring garlic in early September. The most accurate determination of the ripeness of the crop can be by the arrows, which begin to turn yellow and fall on the ground.

In order to preserve the harvest as long as possible, it is recommended to perform the following actions:

  1. Initially, the heads are cleaned of soil and leave to dry for 20 days at a temperature of 25-30 degrees;
  2. Then it is necessary cut roots and leaves, the neck is shortened to a length equal to 2-5 centimeters.

The harvest of garlic is stored in a dry and cool room, the air humidity in which should be in the range of 60-80 percent.

How to sell products

Selling garlic is a very important step, because the success of the business you start will depend on it. There are several options for marketing the resulting crop:

  1. Retail sale at our own point. This option is the most expensive, but at the same time the most costly, because you will have to rent a retail outlet and hire an employee;
  2. Wholesale to various bases, large chain stores, for various industries, etc .;
  3. You can also garlic sell to restaurants and other establishments Catering.

Selling garlic is quite difficult, because the market is full of such offers, but if you find a regular buyer and produce quality products, you don't have to worry about this issue.

What is the profitability of a business from 1 hundred square meters and 1 hectare

Calculation of profitability (income and expenses received) will be produced depending on the size of the sown area, in the same way the income received is calculated.

Paperwork 10,000 RUB 10,000 RUB
Land lease 50 p. 5,000 RUB
Acquisition of planting material (cloves) 3 750 RUB 375,000 RUB
Fertilizer and utilities costs 150 p. 15,000 RUB
Equipment rental 75,000 RUB
Buying inventory 30,000 RUB 30,000 RUB
Staff salaries 40,000 RUB
Total 43,950 RUB 550,000 RUB

Depending on the selected variety, about 10 to 50 tons of harvest can be obtained from one hectare.considering that 1 kilogram can be sold for 110 rubles, the minimum income will be 1.1 million rubles. With the best outcome, this amount can increase by 5 times.

Based on all the calculations presented above, we can come to the conclusion that a business can fully pay for itself already for 1 year of existence.

Business plan

Before starting a garlic business, you need to draw up a competent business plan, which will indicate all the important details:

  1. First of all, it is necessary describe the cultivated variety, its taste, yield and other characteristics;
  2. The second important point will be a description of the cultivated areas;
  3. The business plan must include a production plan, which will include description of the planting process and care technology for plants;
  4. You also need to specify guaranteed distribution channels, with whom an agreement has already been concluded;
  5. The last and most important part of the business plan will be calculation of expenses and estimated income.

Growing garlic for sale is a painstaking but very interesting and profitable process. With the right choice of the variety and obtaining a beautiful and tasty harvest, the business can pay off and generate net income in the first year after landing.

how to grow garlic on a large scale in Bashkiria
With industrial cultivation of garlic, its profitability is over 40%. There are no problems with the sale - garlic is in demand by the food industry, as well as by large Russian sales companies. The experience of growing this crop in the open field is shared by the chief agronomist of the Urozhainoe farm in the Ryazan region, Alexander Penshin.

For several years we have been growing winter garlic, but these were experiments on small areas, 20-25 acres. The yield was 20-25 t / ha. After working out the technology for disinfectants and insecticides, as well as micronutrient fertilizers and soil cultivation in our farm, it was decided to switch to industrial crop cultivation. In 2010purchased 2.2 tons of a French variety of garlic at a price of 200,000 rubles per ton and laid a seed plot of 2 hectares, of which 20 hectares were allocated for air bulbs. We plan to increase the area for garlic to 200 hectares in 2-3 years.

IMPORTANT OBSERVE CROP ROTATION

Garlic can be planted after any predecessor, with the exception of potatoes, tomatoes and onions. these crops have common pests and diseases with it. It is better to place garlic after well-fertilized legumes, pumpkin seeds, early white cabbage and cauliflower, root crops for bunch products, early green crops. From field crops, cereals, legumes for green fodder, hay and haylage, annual and perennial grasses for fodder, clean and green bunks are used as a precursor for it. In our farm, for almost all crops in the crop rotation, the predecessor is white mustard, plowed into the soil like green manure. We cultivate the fields according to the semi-pair system - 2/3 of the season white mustard grows here; the fields are not exposed to the harsh, drying effect of the sun, biological weed control takes place, then the mustard is crushed and after plowing enters the soil, where, decomposing, enriches the land with organic matter. After that, you can sow any crop, be it wheat, barley, carrots or beets - these are all crops grown on our farm that can serve as a precursor to garlic.

SOIL PREPARING IN ADVANCE

The relatively poorly developed root system of garlic requires high soil fertility. This culture prefers structured loamy and sandy loamy soils rich in organic matter. Moreover, they must have good water retention characteristics; the optimal pH value is 6.5-7.9. For growing garlic, we chose an area protected from northerly winds, without deflections (in which water could stagnate in spring) and hills (where strong winter winds blow off snow and can contribute to freezing of the crop).

We prepare the soil for garlic as follows. First, we grind the white mustard, then scatter ammonium nitrate (100 kg / ha) over the surface and immediately process the field with disc implements in two tracks to a depth of 6-8 cm.After two weeks, we apply the main fertilizer under the plow in an amount of 400 kg / ha in physical weight (13:19:19), we plow to a depth of 27 cm. As the weeds grow, we carry out one disking, and on the day of sowing we process the field with a Lemken vertical milling cutter to a depth of 10 cm.

Re-grow garlic over garlic or a bow is permissible not earlier than after 6 years. Planting garlic on fresh manure has a negative effect - worseningthe phytosanitary state of plantings and product quality.

During the growing season, herbicides are not used, therefore, before the winter, they applied the herbicide completelyfirst action "Hurricane Forte" (you can "Roundup", "Zero") with soil herbicide "Gezagard" (you can "Stomp"). When used together of these drugs, their doses were halved - Hurricane Forte (1.5 l / ha) + Gezagard (1.5 l / ha), or "Stomp" (2.5 l / ha).

TREATMENT LANDING MATERIAL

1-2 days before planting, we sort the bulbs, rejecting small ones. Then the most laborious process begins - the division of the bulbs into cloves, with the simultaneous culling of small, sick and pests. On the day of planting, we proceed to etching with fungicides (disinfectants) against pathogens. Immerse the planting material directly in the nets for 3-4 minutes in a 3% solution of the TMTD preparation (Tiram). (In our farm it is he who has been tested, although I cannot say that this is the best option - in other farms they use Fundazol.)

We also add micronutrient fertilizers to the solution: "Rexolin", "Reakom" or "Aquarin mix". This has a positive effect on the yield and quality of products: overwintering improves, plants become more resistant to diseases, pests and adverse factors.

LANDING - IN OPTIMAL TIME

The planting date for garlic in our area is the beginning of October. Some farms are planted earlier so that the cloves are well rooted, but there is a danger of leaves that can be damaged when frost sets in.

At the beginning of October, there is still no stable frost, and the garlic has enough time to develop a strong root system (0.5-1.5 cm), which has a positive effect on overwintering and spring growth. If planting too late, it is impossible to form a good root system - such teeth overwinter badly and freeze slightly.

For planting garlic in large areas, our farm uses a Swedish tulip planting machine (it can also be used to plant onion sets). In front of the coulters, it has clod suppressors, but because the pitch was perfect, they weren't needed. Loading of planting material was carried out manually, from bags into bunkers.

In our region, on heavy soils, the planting depth of garlic is equal to two diameters of the planting material. The chives for planting were 3.5 cm in size, respectively, the planting depth was 7 cm. Planting was carried out in two lines in a row, the distance between the cloves was 10-12 cm, the row spacing was 35 cm.

If possible, planting by hand - in small areas - you can sprinkle sand on the bottom of the grooves so that the bottom of the tooth does not touch the ground. The tooth is planted vertically, with the bottom in the groove, sprout up. This helps to avoid root rot and is guaranteed to give a 10% yield increase. Unfortunately, when planting over a large area using planting machines, this is difficult to achieve.

FEEDINGPROFILESWATERING

In the spring, with the formation of a soil crust, inter-row cultivation can be carried out, and if signs of mineral starvation are detected, it is necessary to combine them with fertilizing with fertilizers containing the missing element.

Herbicides are used in the fall, therefore, in the spring and summer, only loosening of the row spacings is carried out and, possibly (if the area is small), manual weeding.

As the soil dries up to a moisture level below 70% HB, watering is required. In the first half of the growing season, the average irrigation rate is 250-300 m / ha, in the second half - 350-450 m / ha.

When growing garlic on an industrial scale with the massive appearance of arrows in winter crops shooting varieties must be removed. This is increases yield and marketabilityki by 25-30%.

PROTECTION FROM DISEASES AND Pests

Winter garlic can be affected by black mold, which develops in a very rainy spring (this disease can often be observed in areas located to the south), as well as downy mildew (peronosporosis), white rot of the bottom (fusarium) and rot during storage.

The first (prophylactic) treatment for pathogens is carried out with a systemic drug. Subsequent spraying is necessary when the first signs of the disease appear; at the same time, drugs are alternated with various active substances so that pathogens do not develop resistance. Due to the wax coating on garlic plants, surfactants must be added to the working solution of fungicides: Trend-90, Amigo, etc. The main measures taken to prevent diseases are pre-sowing rejection of planting material, the use of dressing agents, and compliance with crop rotation.

One of the systemic contact insecticides is used against insects that infect garlic and cause great harm, reducing the yield and quality of grown products - wireworm, stem nematode and garlic mite. It also helps to avoid contracting viral diseases carried by insects.

Against the wireworm, you need to use the drug "Kruiser", adding it to the working solution when etching from diseases. With the rest of the pests during the growing season, you need to fight with the drugs "Fastak" or "Bi-58".

WITH CLEANING IT IS FORBIDDEN LATE

We harvest in dry, sunny weather in a short time - the quality of the product depends on its efficiency, as well as its suitability for storage (garlic harvested in favorable weather dries up for 2-3 days right on the site). In rainy weather, we are forced to use dryers with active ventilation (with a gradual increase in temperature from 25 ° C to 40 ° C). It has been noticed that a delay in the start of harvesting (especially in wet soil) leads to cracking of the covering shells of the bulbs, an increase in losses and a deterioration in market performance. Bulbs with damaged shells are subsequently unsuitable for long-term storage and disintegrate into separate cloves.

Shooting garlic begins to be harvested when yellowing of the lower leaves and drying of the bloodcracking shells of bulbs, cracking of wrappers inflorescences; non-shooting varieties - with a massive yellowing of the lower leaves and at the beginning of lodging false stems. The exact timing of harvesting winter crops garlic depends on the area of cultivation, usually they fall at the end of July - beginning of August.

After harvesting, the garlic is dried in the field in the sun, then it is harvested, cut and taken under the sheds, where it is sorted (manually on tables or by car) by size. Garlic is very sensitive to blows, from which the juicy tissue of the cloves rots; therefore, the bulbs must be handled with great care. When sorting, the heads are cleaned of soil, the roots are cut, the false stem is shortened to 10-20 mm, damaged, ugly and rotten bulbs are removed.

HOW KEEP PRODUCTS

Peeled, dried (drying the neck well protects the bulbs from the penetration of pathogenic fungi and bacteria) and place the sorted bulbs in boxes with a layer of 12-15 cm, place them in a storage with controlled conditions, or in refrigerated storage chambers (at low temperatures, the reproduction of all types of pathogens slows down ). If there is no prepared storage, garlic can also be scattered on racks (20-40 cm layer) or in boxes with a capacity of 10-12 kg, stacked in such a way as to ensure the most efficient air ventilation.

If the storage conditions are observed (at a temperature of O ... -2 ° C, relative air humidity of 75-80% and air circulation of 2-4 volumes per hour), garlic can be stored for 1 year. Therefore, it can be sold during the period of peak demand and, accordingly, at the maximum price.

Business relevance

Garlic is an unpretentious plant. With the right business organization and knowledge of the cultivation technology, you can get a high yield. Due to its resistance, this plant develops well on the ground with a different composition; it is often planted in gardens for pest control. Long shelf life makes it possible to competently organize sales.

On the other hand, such a business is quite laborious. Difficulty in mechanizing basic processes greatly affects the level of profitability over a large area. But to grow garlic in a small area (several tens of acres), you can count on a good income. If you own the land, such a project will pay off after the sale of the grown crop.

Planting material

As with any other type of agricultural business, yields largely depend on the quality of the planting material. Modern farmers use three types:

  1. garlic arrow - it gives a crop after 2 years. On the one hand, the advantage of such material is its low cost, but on the other hand, it is possible to get products for sale only after 2 years. The cost of a kilogram of a garlic arrow is 1200-1800 rubles per kilogram, but each air bulb in it is much smaller than an ordinary clove. If one and a half tons of cloves are needed to plant one hectare, it is enough to buy only 20 kilograms of such seeds for the same area;
  2. sevok - this is a single-tooth bulb, which makes it possible to grow a large head with several cloves;
  3. denticlefrom which the head grows in one harvest.

On modern farms, the last two types are used, the garlic arrow is often simply left for planting for a future harvest, so as not to waste money on the purchase of expensive seed. The cost of cloves and sevka is 250-300 rubles per kilogram, while you can buy an analogue of domestic garlic from China. A kilogram of planting material from the PRC costs about 100-150 rubles per kilogram, but most farmers talk about its low quality.

Variety selection

All varieties are divided into ardent and winter crops. The latter species is planted in the fall (in October), the ardent planting is carried out in April.

In Russia, the following varieties can be called the most popular:

  • Lyubasha - widespread in Ukraine, characterized by frost resistance, develops normally and grows with a lack of moisture. Therefore, it is relevant for the southern regions. It can be stored for about 10 months. What are the benefits of this variety? A year from one hectare, you can get about 15 tons of crops.
  • Gribovsky jubilee - is planted in winter, mid-season variety, produces arrows, in one bulb - 8-11 cloves;
  • Ukrainian purple and White - the variety is found in winter and ardent culture. This type does not give arrows, has a large number of cloves, the weight of each varies within 2-10 grams.
  • Komsomolets - has a sharp, rich taste, mid-season, produces arrows, a large onion with 8-11 cloves.
  • Saved - the average size of the bulb, it is highly resistant to various diseases - nematode, fusarium, etc.
  • Gulliver - late variety, white and firm flesh, spicy, rich taste. You can store the crop for up to 8 months.
  • Sofievsky - belongs to winter varieties, the bulb is rounded with a purple tint. The variety is resistant to nematodes.

Financial plan

Consider a business plan for growing garlic on a leased land plot of 1 hectare. At the same time, the purchase of agricultural equipment is not made, it is rented for planting and harvesting. Of the workers, 2 people are hired for harvesting and sending to the warehouse. The rest of the costs incurred by other personnel are included in the rental of equipment (since payment is sent to the owners of the equipment for the amount of work performed).

Expenditure part:

  • registration of permits - 10 thousand rubles;
  • land lease - 5 thousand rubles;
  • purchase of seed (1500 kilograms of cloves at a price of 250 rubles) - 375 thousand rubles;
  • fertilizer costs - 10 thousand rubles;
  • equipment rental - 75 thousand rubles;
  • staff salary 40 thousand rubles.

Total - 515 thousand rubles.

How much can you earn? Approximately 10-50 tons can be harvested from one hectare, depending on the selected variety, soil condition and climatic conditions. If you organize wholesale sales at a price of 110 rubles per kilogram, you can get income from 1.1 million rubles. (10,000 kg x 110 rubles).

These calculations are approximate, as a rule, farmers who grow garlic at home on 10-20 acres do not spend money on staff salaries or rent of special equipment. Large farmers plant 10-20 hectares at once, while part of the income is spent on buying equipment.

Business registration

When growing garlic, you need to register a business. The following organizational and legal forms are suitable for this:

  • natural person - individual entrepreneur;
  • limited liability company;
  • peasant farm.

Farms pay taxes according to the unified agricultural tax, individual entrepreneurs or LLCs can work according to a tamed system. At the same time, their rate is the same (6%), the tax base is based on the monetary expression of income.When registering, indicate the OKVED code 01.13 "Growing vegetables, fruits, crops for the production of drinks and spices."

Many grow garlic in their summer cottages, occupying several acres. In this case, you can sell products to dealers who do not require documents. The disadvantage is the low purchase cost.

Equipment, inventory

For those who have no experience in the "garlic business", it is not recommended to start with large volumes. It is not difficult to plant a crop on 10-20 acres by hand; special equipment is required to cultivate land of 1 hectare or more. Some rent a tractor with mounted technologies for planting, others save on buying a walk-behind tractor. Its cost depends on the configuration, on the volume and type of engine (diesel or gasoline), and on the manufacturer. Prices range from 20 to 80 thousand rubles. You also need to stock up on the necessary equipment - buckets, shovels, pitchfork, rakes, hoes, etc.

If in the first years you manage to organize a business, work out schemes and technologies for growing, selling for yourself, you can buy or lease large plots. To process it you will need:

  • seeder;
  • tractor;
  • trailed harvester.

This will enable you to automatically harvest and care for your plants.

Sales

Main distribution channels:

  1. Organization of a retail point of sale (the main advantage is the high cost, since the goods are sent to the end consumer). The cost of garlic for today is 289-350 rubles per kilogram.
  2. Wholesales - to resellers, large chains, for production (canning factories, meat processing plants, pharmaceutical companies). You can organize regular deliveries to catering establishments. Wholesale prices for garlic today are 110-225 rubles.

Business organization features

Like any other business project, growing garlic outdoors is subject to organizational risks and difficulties. The main disadvantages include expensive seed, the complexity of mechanization, and dependence on climatic conditions.

Experienced farmers recommend:

  • garlic can be grown in the same place for no more than three years;
  • regardless of the variety, you have chosen a fervent or winter species, you will not be able to harvest more than one crop in a year;
  • growing garlic in a greenhouse is unprofitable for a large scale, but for personal consumption at home is an excellent option;

Garlic can be planted in the garden as it helps fight many pests.

The owners of summer cottages, by definition, have several more opportunities to organize a home business. You can, for example, not only do gardening or growing fruits and vegetables, but also have pets. Although, of course, many summer residents and novice entrepreneurs prefer plant growing to caring for animals. This is not only a less laborious undertaking, growing vegetables and fruits, in addition, does not require such large financial investments and constant (daily) control, and it pays off faster.

Growing garlic is one of the great business ideas.

how to grow garlic on a large scale in Bashkiria

Land plot

Growing garlic on an industrial scale requires a land plot of about twenty acres (at least 10 x 20 meters is required). A summer cottage is perfect for organizing a small business, but in its absence, land for agricultural needs can be rented.When looking for a suitable place, it is worth giving preference to sandy loam soils or lands such as chernozem, which are the most fertile and allow you to grow a really high-quality crop.

Renting land within the Moscow region is, of course, too expensive for a budding entrepreneur. For example, a plot (twenty acres) near the Rechnoy Vokzal metro station will cost 185 thousand rubles a month, that is, more than two million will have to be paid for the lease alone. In the Smolensk region, for example, the lease of a similar plot will be only 20 thousand rubles / month, or 240 thousand per year.

Type and variety of garlic

Having decided on the land for planting, you should pay attention to the choice of the type and variety of garlic and the purchase of planting material. Growing garlic as a business ideally involves the sale of large batches of product with a long shelf life, in addition, it is desirable to obtain large bulbs and cloves - such a product is sold faster. But each type has both advantages and disadvantages:

  1. Growing spring garlic allows you to get a product with a long shelf life, but the small size of the bulbs and cloves, in addition, you can face low yields.

  2. Growing winter garlic as a business is more profitable, as it allows you to achieve high yields and large bulbs, but such garlic is poorly preserved, there is a risk of freezing.

Technique, inventory and workers

Growing garlic on an industrial scale, of course, requires the involvement of agricultural machinery, since sowing twenty acres on your own is quite laborious. So, you can rent a tractor not during the period of active work. Acquiring equipment for full personal use is not entirely advisable. In addition, shovels, rakes and watering cans are required.

Growing garlic as a business does not require a permanent staff of workers. During planting and harvesting, local retirees, schoolchildren or unemployed people can be recruited for a small fee.

Growing technology

Garlic, the cultivation methods of which differ slightly depending on the type, is generally not very demanding in care. Planting of spring crops is carried out in April - first half of May, winter crops - in late September - early October. The first type must be planted in the furrows quite tightly: about ten centimeters should be left between the teeth, and fifteen to twenty between the rows.For winter garlic, the distance should be ten to twelve centimeters between the cloves and about thirty between the rows.

Planting material - garlic (cultivation and care in the open field, which are described in sufficient detail in the review) - must be disinfected immediately before planting. To do this, prepare two solutions:

  1. Six tablespoons of regular table salt per ten liters of water.

  2. One tablespoon (or three teaspoons) of copper sulfate for the same amount of pure water.

In the first composition, the planting material must be lowered for one and a half to two minutes, in the second - for a minute. Then you can start planting, but the garlic does not need to be additionally rinsed with clean water.

Care consists in periodic weeding of the beds (if necessary) and timely watering. It is better to cover winter garlic in autumn with spruce branches, dry foliage or special material. In the spring, you should remove all unnecessary from the beds. In addition, in the spring, plants can be fed with urea; from time to time (twice a month), garlic should be fertilized. With the active growth of the arrows, it is better to pinch them off - so the garlic, growing and caring for which in the open field does not cause any special problems, grows larger.

Harvesting takes place in mid-July (for winter) or late August (for spring garlic). After that, you need to trim the garlic, rinse and dry the product in natural conditions (under a light canopy in the fresh air) for at least a week. The ready-to-sell product should be stored in wooden crates in a well-ventilated area.

Harvest realization

Organizing sales, if the cultivation of garlic is considered as a business, is most profitable immediately to the end consumer, that is, retail. Wholesale buyers can be:

  • catering establishments (in small batches);

  • pharmaceutical companies;

  • canneries and meat processing plants;

  • resellers of vegetables and retail outlets (small wholesale);

  • large chains of retail stores.

Promotion and development

Growing garlic as a business involves finding wholesale customers. So, you can post an ad in local newspapers, gardening magazines, online catalogs. At retail, they often start selling to friends and neighbors, after which it is built on the principle of "word of mouth". Promotion of goods on the Internet, which has become an effective method of increasing sales in modern realities, is inappropriate for this business. The business can be developed either by increasing the volume or by replacing the product - it is profitable to grow parsley, onions, strawberries, and other crops.
