This pest is densely settled in our territories, and feels comfortable, destroying whole crops of potato plantings, as well as other plants. There are many ways to combat the Colorado potato beetle, from folk remedies to chemical poisons. One of the most effective is the processing of Komandor potato tubers. It is capable of infecting a harmful beetle, but at the same time, without causing harm to a plant or a human body.
Commander is an intestinal insecticide that can infect not only the Colorado potato beetle, but also other pests, such as rodents, wireworms, aphids, butterflies, bear and many others. The commander fights effectively both with mature individuals and with larvae laid by them.
The principle of action of the tool
After applying the drug by spraying or watering the plant, it quickly soaks into roots, stems and leaves. After contact with a treated plant, no matter whether it is eaten or simply by contact, the insect receives a dose of active ingredients into its body.
The poison begins to act on the nervous system of the parasite, paralyzing all its movements and preventing it from receiving food, which leads to its further death. Such a protective field is able to protect the plant from beetles. for 35-50 days.
Active ingredient and form of release
The active substance in the composition of the product, which is responsible for the process of destroying pests, is imidoclapride in a content of 200 g per 1 liter.
It is produced in the form of a special soluble concentrate intended for dilution in water. Can be prepackaged in bottles volumes of 4, 10, 100 ml, and also available in ampoules 1 ml.
Instructions for processing potato tubers
It is better to study the weather forecast in advance, whether rain is promised in the near future, otherwise it will wash away all the poison from the plant before it is absorbed. It is also not recommended to water the crop on this day.
First of all, you need to prepare a solution in a separate container, for 10 liters of water you need to take 2 ml of the product. For convenience, you can dilute 2 ml of the drug in 1 liter of water, mix thoroughly and gradually pour in the remaining 9 liters of water. After the solution is poured into a spray bottle or watering can.
Potato tubers should poison well, spraying it thoroughly from all sides, on all stems and leaves. Also, the solution can be applied to potato tubers sprouted outside the garden, for this each plant is separately processed and laid out in one row on any surface until completely dry.
Processed potatoes can be cover loosely with foil, and after being absorbed in the usual way, plant it in the ground.
If an adult potato crop was already processed by the Commander, then it should be remembered that it is not recommended to eat it for 20 days.
Precautionary measures
But, as with any chemical poison, some precautions should be taken:
- All manipulations with the product must be performed in waterproof gloves... Also, clothes should be old and unnecessary, intended for work in the garden. If possible, it is better to carry out the treatment wearing a respirator;
- During the process, in no case do not eat or drink... This can only be done after removing all clothing and taking a shower. If at the moment it is not possible to completely wash yourself, you can limit yourself to thoroughly washing your hands and face. Smoking while processing plants is also not recommended; it is better to endure a certain amount of time than to have the risk of hazardous particles entering the body through a cigarette;
- If there is still a breeze when spraying the Commander, you should always get up in its direction. If you stand against the wind, the agent will fall on the plant in small quantities, but it will be able to get into the eyes and skin;
- You always need to be careful study instructions, indicated on the packaging for this particular drug. You cannot take instructions from other means or act at random.
- At the time of spraying the poison, it is best to remove all pets away and close their access to the treated area for about a day.

Like any chemical agent, the Commander has a number of its advantages and disadvantages.

Storage rules
It should be isolated from food contact or contact with children and animals. If after the treatment there is a ready-made solution left, it makes no sense to store it, since the shelf life of the solution is very small, it must be poured into a hole dug away from the garden and buried in earth.

Commander's compatibility with other drugs and analogues
Commander can be used in conjunction with other drugs, but before that you need to carefully study whether they give an alkaline reaction. If so, this combination can harm the plants.

Commander Plus
Since potato tubers can be processed before planting, a special modified version of the drug called Commander Plus was invented.
It is intended precisely for not very strong, pre-germinated tubers... Commander Plus is produced in tandem with Energen AQUA, which improves productivity and alleviates the stress in plants resulting from chemical treatment.
In general, we can say that Commander Plus has no strong differences from the Commander. The goals and method of application are the same, just the first is a more gentle and useful option.

In general, I was pleased with the Commander. The number of Colorado beetles has decreased significantly, I found many dead insects on the ground, which suggests that the drug really works.

We have always been overwhelmed by a huge number of wireworms and Colorado beetles, but their attacks stopped immediately after using this remedy.
