Perennial mallow - growing and care

Perennial mallow is also known as stock-rose. Surely, one of the two names of this plant is familiar to you.

It is very difficult not to notice mallow - it is a tall plant reaching 2 or more meters in height. Mallow leaves are also not small in size, collected in a large rosette.

It should be noted that the stem-rose begins to bloom in the second year of growth. In the first year, the plant only forms a large rosette of leaves.

But in the second year, stock roses bloom very profusely, weakening by the next year of growth. It would be correct to attribute this plant to the biennial group.

Mallow reproduces by self-sowing, because it seems that it blooms constantly: at the planting site, new shoots constantly grow by themselves, which bloom just as intensively.

Stock-rose flowers are simple and double, the color is also very diverse. The diameter of simple mallow flowers ranges from 6 to 12 centimeters. The stock-rose blooms, as a rule, from June to September. This flower plant belongs to frost-resistant.

In order for perennial mallow to grow successfully, it needs a sufficiently nutritious soil with good drainage, a sunny, sheltered from the winds, a place in the garden, moderate watering. It is better to plant mallow near fences or walls of houses, so that there is something to lean on or tie up their tall stems.

The stem-rose is propagated by seeds. They do not need to be grown for seedlings, mallow sprouts well immediately in the open field.

Seeds are sown in the beds in the month of May, and when the sprouts acquire a pair of true leaves, they are transplanted to a permanent place. This usually happens in July.

For the winter, flower beds with perennial mallow are sheltered from frost.
