Growing corn in the country - easy and simple

It is difficult to find a more tasty and healthy product in summer than boiled corn cobs. But not everyone knows that the useful sugars that are part of the grains begin to break down literally after a few hours after harvesting, and the canning of corn should also be done quickly. Naturally, you can only keep the time from harvesting to the start of preparation of the product under control if the corn is grown and harvested with your own hands.

It is believed that growing corn in the country is a very laborious and thankless process. In fact, special skills and knowledge are not required, but the whole family will appreciate the harvest. The opinion that corn can be successfully grown only in the southern regions is also unfair - it grows well and bears fruit in the middle lane.

  • It is best to plant seeds at a time when the earth has already warmed up well, otherwise the tender sprouts may die.
  • If necessary, you can cover crops with covering material until shoots appear.
  • The soil should be well fertilized, the normal development of plants gives a slightly acidic soil.
  • Seeds are best purchased from specialized stores, where a wide range of excellent tasting sweet corn varieties are available. In addition, modern varieties give a rich harvest - as a rule, two or three full-fledged ears grow on one stem.

Growing corn in the country will also require weeding and hilling two or three times. As lateral shoots appear, it is recommended to remove them. The crop is harvested during the milky ripeness of the grains - during this period they are most tasty and contain the maximum amount of nutrients.
