Elderberry herb - a lady with character
In the countryside or the outskirts of the city, this plant lives quite well. Elderberry is considered a kind of weed, although it has long been used in folk medicine, despite the fact that some superstitions are associated with this lady (as if the devil himself lives in her). The height of this perennial herb is 120 - 150 cm. It grows almost everywhere, but prefers stony soil.
Since ancient times, elderberry herb has been a recognized cure for dropsy. The berries, leaves and roots of this plant have different beneficial properties, but (!) Can be poisonous. To do this, you should know the rules for handling elderberries. And do not pick, for example, unripe fruits. And ripe, in turn, it is not advisable to rub in hands - it is quite difficult to wash off the purple color from the juice.
Elderberry tinctures and powders treat constipation and obesity, cystitis, gastritis and other digestive disorders. If your back hurts, then leaves are also added to the roots, and the berry extract is considered an excellent natural immunostimulant (it is even used for cancer). Water infusions of this plant are used to combat fungal diseases. Pounded fresh leaves can be the first aid for various insect bites. And with tuberculosis and hemorrhoids, elderberry jam will help. And this is not all that the "witch's potion" is capable of.
For economic purposes, berry juice is used as a dye for clothes and wines. Another useful use of elderberry is that it repels rats and mice very well. Rodents avoid places where this freshly cut grass lies, as they do not like its smell.
Be careful: you cannot eat fresh berries (or any other parts) of this plant - they contain toxic substances.
Oh yes, the smell, of course, is really very specific for the elderberry, but I tried to dye clothes with its fruits as a child - the white dress turned into an incomprehensible one!
For some reason, she used to meet more often than now. But this is a really moody plant. Despite the fact that it grows free and must be adapted to different conditions, but the destruction of the stems and cut flowers, can lead to the death of the plant. The elder must be pollinated, give a seed that will fall off and give a generation, and the absence of a flower often leads to a decrease in the number of plants.
