Feijoa cultivation

Nowadays, gardeners are increasingly growing outlandish plants that are not typical for our region. Feijoa is such a plant. Feijoa cultivation has its own characteristics, which we will now consider. But before that, I would like to mention the purpose of growing feijoa. The goal is fruits that are very pleasant to taste and smell. They have a combination of strawberries and pineapple. Berries contain many vitamins, microelements and iodine.

Feijoa is a thermophilic plant that does not like drafts. The plant grows best at temperatures up to 24 degrees in the summer. And in winter, the temperature should not be lower than 8 degrees. This plant loves a humid habitat, therefore, it should be watered abundantly during the summer. But in the winter period you need to look so that the soil has time to dry out.

This evergreen plant can be fed during any period of active growth. Top dressing is done with mineral and organic fertilizers. In the spring, this bush is pruned. Weak shoots are cut, and the rest are shortened by a third.

This plant can be propagated in two ways. The first method is by cuttings, and the second is by seeds. Cuttings must be planted in damp ground with the addition of humus. For good rooting of the cuttings, the temperature should be maintained at 25 degrees.

When sowing feijoa, a bush will grow, but it will not carry the varietal characteristics of its parents. Planting this shrub is no different from other shrubs. Therefore, it is better to propagate feijoa by cuttings. Good luck with your cultivation and a good harvest.

It seems to me that growing plants in climatic zones for which they were not created, even if it is all for the sake of fruits, is not worth such colossal efforts that have to be invested, providing all the conditions for normal growth and development for these trees.
