Growing early cabbage seedlings
Many gardeners have ever cultivated cabbage seedlings. Growing seedlings of early cabbage is the most difficult and painstaking business. In order for the seedlings to be good, so that they do not stretch up and be weak and thin, and start tying heads of cabbage on time, you need to know when and what needs to be done.
If we take the central regions, the cultivation of early cabbage seedlings should be started in February, counting on the fact that around April 15, the cabbage seedlings should be already in the ground. You need to calculate like this. We take the date when you think to plant cabbage in the ground, and subtract 55 days from it - the period during which the seedlings will germinate.
Cabbage seeds are sown in pots or boxes 10-12 centimeters deep. The soil for seedlings needs to be prepared. It should be fertilized. 60% of all soil should be peat, 30% humus. You can add deciduous soil and ash so that midges do not eat cabbage. Ash is a good antiseptic, which is good at fighting various insects harmful to plants.
Cabbage seeds must be fresh. The older the seeds, the less chance the seedlings will germinate. Germinating seedlings is warm. When the seedlings begin to emerge from the ground, the temperature must be reduced to 6-8 degrees, otherwise the seedlings will stretch out.
After 2-4 true leaves have appeared on the plant, the seedlings dive. This happens approximately 3-4 weeks after the cabbage has come off. The distance between the plants is 8x10, 10x10 cm. I dive it into boxes or warm greenhouses, into a well-fertilized soil with urea or ammonium nitrate and superphosphate.
The temperature of the earth at a depth of 10 cm, where the seedlings are planted, should be at least 5 degrees.
Cabbage is very fond of good watering, so if you do not have the opportunity to water it often then it is better not to suffer with seedlings, otherwise your efforts will not be crowned with success unfortunately.
